But what if it had cost the significantly more should the buyer pay that?.

I don't believe the first scenario, justfies the second. The Buyer does not have the means to determine what is the correct amount to charge, the Seller does.

Or happy to get free postage though there is no such thing? Or happy to let the courier company take the extra money, i.e. if the cost was actually £19.99?
You will be deciding what the seller is allowed to do with the money next.
This whole subject just displays how petty we are as a nation. You would watch drunken yobs own the street, but kick the s*** out of an ebay seller for trivia. Because it's anonymous and hence safe.

I don't think it's fair to leave a negative. Yes, what the seller is doing is wrong, BUT you knew the postage fees before you bid.

If you felt that strongly, you should not have bought from them in the first place.
  • Doesn't anyone think it a just a tad dishonest to include under the banner of "postage and packing" charges which are nothing to do with either postage or packing?

A buyer wouldn't necessarily know that this has happened until they receive the goods, and I could imagine they would feel they have been conned if it amounts to a largish amount of the money they paid.

    its not dishonest.
The buyer doesn't have to bid it they do not agress to the charges. simple as that. No one makes you bid on an item against your will, just like in a shop, if you do not like the sellers terms, do not buy from them.

Feel conned? £30 cheaper than the internet price? Factually the seller is conning ebay. The buyer is taking advantage of the ebay system to slate the seller, not for damaged or substandard goods - but for "feelings". God help the kids.

    This item -

    ebay

Postage as £19.99, was initially happy as i thought it would cost the earth to move. Item arrived this morning, upon checking postage label. Price paid to fastway couriers was £8.95.

The seller is an electrical wholsesaler, so the staff would be around anyway, who would of shipped the items in bulk from the permises. The courier would of collected.

    We calculate overcharge of £11.04.

I will edit this post with a picture of the parcel when they upload.

Whatever happened to common sense people?

All you have to do is answer these few questions....
    1. did you think the seller was selling this item for zero profit? (if you answered yes then WAKE UP!! this is a business they are here to make money)
    2. If you answered no to the above question then ask yourself this, do you really give a rats a55 whether the seller made his mark up on the postage or the item?
    3. If you answered no to question 2 go straight to question 4, If you answered yes to question two ask yourself this next question....For the love of god, WHY?? what does it matter to you either way?
    4. If you answered no to question 2 ask yourself this further question, did you think the overall price, cost + p&P was good overall at the time of purchase? If your answer to this question is yes go straight to question 6
    5. If you answered no to question 4 i want you to get up right now, i want you to go to the nearest mirror in your home and i want you to look yourself in the eyes and i want you to ask yourself this question out loud.....Why, oh why did you sodding well buy it then you bl00dy great bumbling idiot!
    6. Ok, so if you have made it to question six there is just one more question to ask yourself...If your happy with the overall price, you don't care too much about where the seller makes his profit as long as you got a good deal, the item was delivered in good time and was as described and the thought that ebay might have lost a few pence in fees isn't going to keep you awake tonight, then given that the seller provided what he said he would, at a good overall price in good time does he deserve a neg?
If your answer to question 6 is yes, go back to that mirror, take it from the wall and use it to repeatedly hit yourself over the head with....your are officially a customer from hell, and an idiot...:p

Some people are just programed to complain, if the charge was hidden i'd understand but when it's right there in front of them what more do they want.

It's like my sales, all of them come with free postage yet still some buyers only mark me 4 out of 5 for p&p Charges??...i'm sorry did you expect me to pay you for getting off your fat ar5e and opening the door to accept your free postage, next day delivered item:mad:...honestly, some buyers.....

No, nobody makes the buyer buy, the buyer wants the goods, and is accepting the price charged on posting and packing. But, are they not accepting the price charged on the basis that it is a fair and reasonable price? They are depending upon the Seller to be fair and reasonable at this point, they are assuming the price is what it will cost to post and pack the item they have purchased.

The problem, as I see it, is when on receipt of the goods, that charge turns out to be clearly overinflated? The buyer may not care, but why wouldn't a buyer equally feel they have been misled?

But then the OP would not have got it at a super cheap price.

I had FB like it once. "item as descriped, not very well packed p and p high"

If it wasnt well packed how did it get to you as descriped...
If i upset you don't stress, never forget that god aint finished with me yet.

Don't forget if the seller was vat reg, then you have to take this into account, as they have to charge Vat on the postage. - as posting it is considered a service
