I would leave a pos assuming you are happy with the item but would certainly mark him down on postage stars.

What did the seller say when you sent a message asking why they'd charged so much for postage?

If they gave a genuine response i.e. "the courier company charged me £18", or "I guessed wrong, have a £8 refund", then fair enough, but if the seller really did only pay less than £10 and charged £20, then I think the negative is deserved, as it's blatant ebay fee avoidance, and not permitted by ebay.

I don't sell very often on ebay, but if I'd made a mistake by overcharging the postage, I'd refund the difference.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Because you are the ebay police, right? And you must ferret out the wrongdoers. Like Batman, only in a cowardly way.

Some people on here seem to forget that there are two Ps in P+P. :D

Come on, right or wrong (and I say wrong, you can insult me with ebay police all you like- someone has to pay the defecit for ebays percieved loss, and if you're scamming a few extra pence and I'm not then it's me) that packaging is laughable.

I'd mark them down not neg though, assuming it's all otherwise good.
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

Is the item exactly what you were expecting?
Or were you expecting something bigger that would have cost £20 to ship?

Ultimately, if you got what you wanted at a price you were happy to pay then I don't think you can do anything other than positive feedback. Leave a comment about high postage profit in the feedback, and definitely leave low stars for postage costs. But I think it's got to be positive.

If it had cost £20 to post but they were based, say, 5 miles down the road from you, would you have been happy if they'd taken the £20 and delivered it personally? I don't see why not.

Are you able to report the seller to eBay? It's them who should be chasing this up as it is them (and ultimately, then, all their sellers which eventually means all buyers) who are losing out.

But then the OP would not have got it at a super cheap price.

I had FB like it once. "item as descriped, not very well packed p and p high"

If it wasnt well packed how did it get to you as descriped...
    Sheer dumb luck? :D

We had a package once that was stuffed and I do mean properly stuffed full of loose cards in a reused jiffy bag.
It was coming open by the time it got here, but a count showed there was none missing.

I doubt if Ebay would be interested.

£19.99 p&p for a large and/or heavy item is not unreasonable.

For a business, there are many other costs involved than just the courier charges.

I charge £14.99 to £19.99 p&p for guitars and keyboards and I have never had a complaint.

Sure, the OP agreed to the £20 P&P charge when they bidded, but at that point, they didn't know what standard of packing to expect. What I mean is, there's a big difference between paying £5 and having something turn up in a tesco carrier bag, badly packaged, no care etc., and having something turn up well packaged, in a new box, with obvious care.

Until you're received the item, you can't really know if the quoted P&P rate is actually reasonable or not.

From the pictures the OP posted, it looks like the seller paid £10 for the courier, and then charged £10 to wrap a few black bin bags around the boxes, and tape them up. Whether or not it is reasonable to pay £10 for that is a good question, and I don't know the answer to that.

The important thing is "Did the item arrive complete, undamaged and reasonably quickly"?

I'd prefer items to turn up quickly and undamaged in a tatty old jiffy bag than slowly and damaged in a brand new box.

The OP has indeed, now left the seller negative feedback..
"Suspected overcharge on postage. Only £8.95 to send item via fastway couriers" IMO not a justifiable neg, as a buyer, I, like a lot of people have already said, look at the overall cost of the item, and if it's a good buy, then I'm happy. Sometimes we need to look at the bigger picture.
