the only thing i have found to work on nits is nitty gritty aromatherapy lotion http://www.nittygritty.co.uk/ng/index.jsp?page=/productListing.jsp its £9.99 but really works and not much more expensive than all the stinky chemically ones0

I've looked through the thread and I don't think anyone else has posted this link http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/theliceprogram/theprogram.html
It is a three-week programme to help you remember the important days to comb in order to break the life-cycle of the lice. I tried following it, but to be honest when my daughter was at school it was useless because she kept getting re-infected. It works brilliantly during the school holidays though.0 -

My daughters were forever getting them but I've used this treatment at the weekend and it's got rid of all the headlice. I've also just found out that you can get it on prescription so if you take your daughter to the doctors you should be able to get it for free.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040 -
i think what hank was trying to say but not very elequently (sp) was that alot of people do use the 'slow metabolism' 'PCOS' and 'Underactive thyroid' as an excuse when probably the truth is that they are consuming far to many calories than they are burning off. I am not saying that people don't suffer from it but i do believe that a large majority that claim to have once of the above are just using it as an emotional crutch rather than getting of their !!!!!! and doing something about their weight.

I must be very thick skinned (or just thick:p )....I wasn't remotely offended by Hanks comments........obviously didn't read it properly:rolleyes:
Then again, I generally only take notice of something if it remotely interests me;)0 -
HI Triker,
I'm so sorry to read your story, I know when you're at the start of your journey it certainly seems like you're at a real low point in your life - but every ex-debt-free-wannabe will tell you that things can only get better. In a way, you have to start from where you are now to end up in a better place at the finish line.
I too know what it's like to fight many tons of excess fat and also went through a phase of not buying new clothes in order to try and motivate myself. I still do it often and I really feel for what it's like to have nothing to wear because of your weight, so you have my deepest sympathies and of course support. Check out the debt and fat free wannabe thread for a start, the two really go hand in hand.
As for nits, well it's there so don't get down, just deal with it. Children are in their very nature the bearers of such things, and as they only like clean hair it certainly doesn't reflect badly on you. Check out the OS board for some natural and cheap remedies to this common problem, I'm sure you'll find lost of help there.
I hope you keep posting and letting us look in to your life to offer you some sincere help and suggestions.
Head up trooper,

Triker wrote:........Had a huge sort out last weekend ............... This used to happen regularly set off by thoughts such as, oh the house needs cleaning, I know instead of cleaning it I'll go out and buy something that will magically transform my messy home into.......a more cluttered, messy home............I'm fat, yes I truly am. I am point blank refusing to buy any more clothes (actually have no choice as have no money) but if I had the option then I wouldn't. Was a happy size 12/14 many centuries ago, something happened (think it was connected to excess food consumption in some way !!) and erm well I'm fat and fed up.
Just realised I hadn't replied to your post.......very remiss of me:o
You sound much the same as me in this post.........
Cleaning the house: I'll admit, I'm not particularly houseproud...which is why I don't have many visitors...I don't invite any:p ....and I hate it when people turn up unannounced.....when I'm on 'clean the house' kick....it's generally a half arsed attempt at the best of times (usually when I know someone's visiting funnily enough).......I then think.....I need this that and the other to do the cleaning properly...so I'll have to go the shops....by the time I get back am too tired to do the cleaning...:o
Weight: I refused to get bigger clothes for ages.......until I simply had to....and now I don't really want to get any more because I want to lose weight.....but I've had so many clear outs of my clothes (and I didn't have that much to begin with!).....that I need more so I'll have to bite the bullet and buy:rolleyes:
Strange really, people tend to tell me I've lost weight when I know I've put it on (this happens every time?)....at this rate I should be thinner than a broomstick:p
How i feel about myself depends on the day, sometimes I think I look a bit chunky....but the general shape is ok...other days I can look at myself and see some bloated mess that I don't readily recognise...
It happens to us all hun......we all have our fed up days/weeks/add on what you like here!
Hugs to you......things will get better...you will feel better about yourself and your situation...and you will get rid of your daighters nits if its the last thing you do!;)0 -

I think we're related, that is so me, I call it being laid back but I suspect others think different.
Well evening everyone, thank you so much for your many replies of support and suggestions.
Woke up still with a feeling of dread, really don't like feeling like this but I'm going to take each day as it comes and try to deal with what I can.
I'm currently sat here with bits of tin foil sticking out of my hair, no I'm not a Trekky, or anything wierd, I'm trying to make right the mess the hairdresser made of my hair last week. After trying to convince myself that my highlights were blond rather than the nicotine yellow that has been staring me in the face I have admitted defeat and yes my hair is definately a mixture of brown and the worst shade of orangey yellow that you can imagine. Think crunchie shade, yuk.
Finances, well I've transferred £150.00 from ebay paypal profits to the bank, have a £90.00 fine from the bank that I noticed on my Natwest ministatement, agh. Got the further £300.00 hubby gave me to try to manage and my child benefit so I'm thinking it's not so bad. I've also listed more stuff on ebay.
Nit wise, I'm going to docs to try and get the nittygritty comb on prescription, cheers for that suggestion.
Weight wise, well I've done nowt as yet, but I haven't been snacking much. Not done much exercise, but I have a contraption of evil aka a lateral thigh trainer thingy that keeps looking at me as if to say 'well come on, get on and move then'. I'm ignoring it at the moment, on purpose, cos it's raining and sunday and ......well I can't be bothered just yet but I will.....soon.
Will go into the bank tomorrow or ring ton try and get £90.00 reimbursed, will keep you posted if successful.
Thanks for all your lovely replies, Cheers Triker.DFW Nerd 267. DEBT FREE 11.06.08

Hi Triker
I've just finished a long and extremely boring essay about the research into headlice treament, and would suggest you try conditioner, slathered all over the hair, then wrap the haie in clingilm and LEAVE IN for at leat 2 hours, preferrably overnight, and repeat a week later, then again another week later. It suffocates them. there's a new treatment called Hedrin that works on the same principle.
