Combo is nice, more like car to drive, I like the Hijet, but it's more of a town van.
Both should be cheap to run though.0 -
Im not sure most kids would want a van to drive though Mike
He works with his dad but they have an erm, volatile work relationship, so I am quite keen to help him set up with a van to start getting some experience on his own so that he can go it alone asap:)

Cant imagine what it would be like in a crash...Went shoplifting at the Disneystore today.
Got a huge Buzz out of it.0 -
What the hijet? OH said to me he was concerned it may roll if it didnt have plenty of weight in the back. But Ive googled and cant find any bad reviews so far.0
-
Hijet would be a handful on a long trip with motorway involved, nearly flat out at 70, and being blown all over the place by side winds and trucks. They are awkward to work on if repairs are needed.and a pain to do the oil and water checks. Combo may be better option if the insurance is similar.0

The Rascal was a real handful with a load on board on a dual carriage way, but it didn't feel like it wanted to fall over, it just wanted to wander from lane to lane as it pleased, and not keep to the course you were attempting to steer.0 -
the hijet/rascal is a town van, forget taking this on the motorway, for 2 reasons. any kind of head wind makes overtaking impossible,it has the aerodynamics of a brick, therefore giving poor fuel consumption.
the second reason being that once youget this van up to speed if for any reason you had a crash in it you could almost garauntee a very quick death.
any speed over 50 is terrifying and predicting the vans next move is like russian roulette.you may survive you may not.
go for the combo,more popular,easy for spares,and a bit safer and more comfortable....work permit granted!0 -
I wouldn't want to go over 40 in the screaming little di !!!!!! su, and definately not on a motorway. If you drive with your foot to the floor and start to climb a hill they just lose power, not very good if you've got a HGV up your harris. I can't believe they made these as people carriers!
Also make sure you are allowed in your local tip, some class vans as commercial.
As for young ones and vans, my first mode of transport when I was 17 was a Mini van
(showing my age now), but then I used to fill the back full of mates, couldn't do that now so in effect he is driving a two seater.
ML.He who has four and spends five, needs neither purse nor pocket0 -
LOL Emmell, my OH said the same thing re his first "motor".
Ive just noticed in local paper a Ford Escort van (looks like ex P.O, red) - says 2 owners, 39k miles, FSH, 6 months MOT. May ring that one too. Its on for £14000
