Daihatsu Hiject 16V EFI LPG
Options
Right, can I have opinions on the above van as a first van for youngest son please?
We bought other kids first car but he wants a van so he can do odd jobs and earn extra cash.
Have seen this in an auction near me and the auctioneer reckons about £500 - £800 for it. 2002,1300 cc - has LPG and petrol, done 70k, MOT for a year.
Is it a good vehicle, is it naff for a young man, will LPG cost more to insure ?
Theres also a veauxhall como 1700 di likely to go for c£1400 2003, 57 k warranted miles, only 3 months MOT though?

I'd get insurance quotes first, (quote with a full licence, not a provisional)0 -
hi-jets a bit of sooty and sweep van but reliable
combo drives better and parts are more avaliable0 -
mikey on a provisional, the Vauxhall is fully comp is £950 and tpff is £802. Do you think it will be a lot more on a full licence?
I tried to get a price for the Daihatsu but I couldnt find an LPG option ?
somech, I loved the shape and he is a great fan of the old VW campers and it reminded me of a smaller version of that, but I dont want to buy it for his birthday and he says Oh its cr*p -0 -
as he's a young lad the hi-jet has no cred endlessly reliable but his mates may laugh.
the combo if its clean and straight could be a good buy (and can be boyed up with wheels and so on)0 -

Short answer yes
My kids went up 50 to 100%.
Get a quote for full, and use the straight petrol for a comparison.0 -
Just tried on both full and provo and apparently you do enter petrol if you have the LPG. Both came out roughly the same at about £700.
Bit concerned about the mates laughing though -although to be honest he often surprises me how he doesnt think things are naff that I imagine he will. I think he would have been a hippy had he been born when I was
I guess the surprise is off the cards - Ill send him a photo of it which I took on my camera when I was there. Its yellow too, which may or may not be a problem for him.
Actually, I was thinking if it were cheap enough I may buy it for us and use it when we take the dogs out and the rubbish to the tip, rather than ruining our new car.0 -

That's an impressive quote, most have been over £1200 for a 17 year old with a full licence. (and that's tpft)0 -
could fit some black stripes and pretend its a bumble bee:)
wise move letting him decide (my parents had really bad taste)0 -
He is 21 mikey - a late learner0
-
Still a good quote compared to a few recently, for things like saxos and fiestas, maybe you've found the secret to the car that all new drivers should be going for.0
