Brown sticks his foot in his mouth

Leave it to Mandelson to crank up the spin machine -
Business Secretary Lord Mandelson says politicians, including Gordon Brown, are "human". They say things "in the heat of the moment" and "sometimes say things they simply do not mean", he adds. "It's not in his nature to want to hurt people like that," he tells Sky News. Lord Mandelson says Labour is a "compassionate party". Gordon Brown, "more than any other", wants to help people, he adds, calling the PM's apology for his remarks "heartfelt".

The fact that they start all the clips after the woman finishes speaking, so that we only get to hear what Gordon said and not what it was in response to, make me suspect she was indeed a bigoted old cow, and Rupert's henchmen are simply presenting the coverage to favour their political team.
Get a grip, do. He is supposed to be the Prime Minister, He is supposed to be the Leader of the Labour Party. He has absolutely no business speaking so disrespectfully of a voter - particularly one who says she has voted for his party her entire life.
What we have here is the true voice of the political class - be they Tory, Labour or Lib-Dem. They do not care what ordinary people think, feel or believe. They know what is best and have done since they were student politicians. Once every few years they are forced to pretend they care what the electorate thinks but, almost without exception, after that they go back to doing whatever they please, quite regardless of our opinions, which they hold in utter contempt.
This story isn't about this particular gargoyle, it is about the people for whom we are expected to vote and what they really think of us. And yes - that includes everyone reading this thread.0 -

fair play to Gordon Brown though, he may only have one eye but it's a good 'un.0 -

She's typical of most of the electorate - too stupid to understand most of the issues she was talking about. And bigoted, yes, in that don't-know-any-better sort of way.

It is not 100% balls. There are time of stress where people do say things they shouldnt. We all do it.
But was this a time of stress? If it was, he isnt fit to govern anything other than his sock colour.0 -

he should've replied to the woman with something completely random like this:

she was bigoted. Why shouldn't people from europe come here for work? Enough brits go to europe looking for bargain properties and a home from home, inflating the cost of housing and services for the people there. You can't avail yourself of the benefits only to moan when others do the same. The eu allows for freedom of movement. And besides, i hate it when people bandy around terms like 'immigrant' without fully understanding what they are actually talking about. People from eastern europe are not immigrants, they are migrants.:heartpulsOnce a Flylady, always a Flylady:heartpuls0

Is she being described as a "bigot" because she had the temerity to talk about immigration and ask questions that the Labour party seem loathe to answer? If a genuine question regarding how unlimited immigration from Eastern Europe has affected the local job market/wages is considered bigoted then we are in serious trouble. It's a genuine concern which I imagine a lot of people, especially in the north of England, have had real experience of.0
