The thing is, there are many, many looney people out there who are generally suppressed and not permitted to voice their far right opinions. Hence the shock in the European elections - and possibly an even bigger one to come.0 -

imagine you are a young girl and your dimwit older sister has been looking after you for 13 years, spending like a drunken sailor on daddy's credit card - THAT CAN'T GO ON FOREVER. Now daddy has taken it back and wants to balance the books.

these are the very reasons that Labour will not win the General Election.
it's not because that their policies are better or worse than the tories but because Brown doesn't have the public image needed to be PM. he's a bit of a peice IMO.
it's quite sad that we as a country are being swayed who to put into power for the next 5 years because of comments made to a colleague or because of acting performance on TV debates.
The real problem is that Gordon Brown is a nasty piece of work. His facade slipped and the electorate glimpsed, for a moment, the real Gordon Brown.
Plenty of politicians have image problems. Look at Vince Cable! But he's a nice bloke, people like him, and you can't imagine he'd say this sort of thing even in private.0 -
What annoys me is that the IFS had just started to kick off a useful debate on the economy - which had got all three main parties with their trousers down to a greater-or-lesser extent.
Now, all they have to do is talk about this balls-up for the next week instead.
Are people really interested in policy? It seems not.Politics is not the art of the possible. It consists of choosing between the disastrous and the unpalatable. J. K. Galbraith0 -

The little old lady was clearly a far right-wing loon. The only thing missing was a swastika tatooed on her forehead.
Listening to her being interviewed after Brown's gaff she seemed pretty 'level headed' I'd like to have heard what she actually said to him though.0 -

anyone could improve the nhs and other services by chucking billions at it - the point is, we don't have billions to spend.
its like if you call a firm of top quality builders and decorators to come to your house and they employ an architect and then almost demolish the house, rebuild it, rewire it, replumb it, decorate it, put in the best things money can buy and then they hand you a bill for 350k. You then say, but I only had 50k. The trick is to deliver the improvements for the budget, not for 7x more. anyone can do that!!!!!
these people are contaminate scum, to coin a phrase.0 -
I heard what was shown on the news. she is obviously no politician. she seems ordinary, opinionated and fairly...standard. she referred to eastern Europeans. Bigoted, possibly, I dunno. I do know that is a concern of many and thus should be allowed to be aired.0
