as someone who works in the media i'm absolutely disgusted by sky for this. it goes against all broadcasting codes of conduct and there is absolutely no way this was an accident. radio mics do get left on people accidentally sometimes (they go to the loo, drop them down the toilet), but there is no way they are left switched on and monitored accidentally or the feed is recorded accidentally. this was clearly a deliberate attempt by a right wing channel to stitch gordon brown up.

personally i think it's a credit to him that this was the worst they could manage to get. let's face it a woman who says "all these eastern europeans - where are they flooding from" IS a bigot. i'd like to know what david cameron has said into his microphone after the cameras are supposed to be off. but despite what is said about the bbc and leftwing bias there is no way the bbc would record and leak something like that.

the political bias in the murdoch media has been absolutely disgusting this election. to be honest i'd like to complain to ofcom about it.

No it describes where they come from.

What I really don't like is that it is a general statement, lumping all Eastern Europeans together and in doing so blames an entire group of people.

In all that has gone on in the last 24 hours, all I want to know is where is Rochdale Pioneer? His pet subject in his home town;)

I wonder what he went on to say after the radio mike went out of range. I bet he kept on ranting and if the mike had a slightly longer range he would be finished now.

Sorry Wookster, but you can analyse out Duffy's conversation ad infinitum to try and jutify Brown's reactions, but the bottom line is Gordon not only called her a bigot, but also his tone and frustration in his voice at having to 'talk to a pleb' was quite clear. There's just no excuse for it - and Brown knows this as I am sure you do too.

For god sake, no-one let him near any babies!!!!.

What media code?. The BBC state clearly they are happy to secretly record conversations if there is a public interest :-

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/guidelines/editorialguidelines/edguide/privacy/secretrecint.shtml

and isn't it just AMAZING that the BBC are quite fond of leaking private conversations when it suits their agenda :-

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2009/feb/04/bbc-television

Carol Thatcher's leaked "golliwog" conversation was private and yet still got out into the public domian.

So I'm not buying the whole "Murdoch anti-Labour campaign" argument on the basis the BBC have done it and are happy with doing it.

Do you operate under a different media code of conduct/sector of the media?

Err the mic was a press mic and open to all brodcasters and press there not just sky, so not a conspiracy.
Inside the Labour campaign, the focus will now be falling on Mr Brown’s press handlers, who he will have relied on to remind him to remove the microphone before getting into his car.

He stitched his self up, his error, no one else's.
