  • This is what I feared. When we all took out the offer in the summer it seemed to be free to cancel and the only penalty was paying the £25 fee. They seem to have changed the terms and conditions this time round and appear to be applying them to us. Even on the phone when going through the joining process with HP I asked about the cancellation and they said it would be ok.

(I talked my husband into this offer and he is going to be so mad if they are going to charge him gym membership! Oops!)

I phoned up on Monday morning, they said someone should phone back the same day. No-one has by the end of Wednesday.

I've sent a message to them through their website confirming my wish to cancel. I've also cancelled my DD. I hope not to have any problems..

It doesn't apply to me as I was with Cannons, but I did notice in some small print the vague wording that the "Holmes place membership is for 12 months". I wonder where that leaves people who try to cancel Pruhealth and gym after 6 months..

The first instance of this offer was over a year ago, there must be other MSErs who have tried to cancel since then - please could people let us know of their experiences?
  • have you put in your true date of birth for the quote or doesn't that matter, i'm 35 and can almost half the premium by telling them i'm 21. does this matter for the purpose of getting the gym membership or do you have to say your real date of birth because it's passed on to the club???

TBH medical broker, I think this article is more about getting gym membership for a bargain price regardless of the medical insurance.

I could get the medical insurance for £17 ish a month which = £102 for 6 months .

That would also get me the free gym membership for 6 months. After the 6 months I would cancel.

Take into account the Quidco £115 cashback and i'll be effectively getting paid £13 for taking 6 months gym membership.

Who cares about the health insurance at that rate!!!

  • has anyone applied for the gym loophole offer by giving a false birth date, to cut the medical insurance premium, or is that not on???

id use common sense to be fair! doesnt sound like its on to me, it sounds like fraud..
  • I am also keen to hear of anyone's experiences with cancelling. My sixth months will be up in March and I'd like to cancel.

What's the best way to go about cancelling - phoning, emailing, cancelling the direct debit?

    Thanks :)

When did they change their t&c's that you would have to pay gym membership fees if you cancel?

I signed up last month & am already not happy with the gym. I pass by on my way home from work around 5.30pm but parking there is no parking available until after 6.30pm which makes going really difficult as I have to go home, do nothing for an hour as it's too early to eat then go back out to the gym again if I want to use it!
  • My partner gave notice after 6months and is due to stop at the gym at the end of this month. Cancelled via email got a leter confirming, BUT has just had a new letter from Pru Health telling him he will be debited each month for 80p!! Whats that about? I have also given my notice in and will join the gym directly as holmes place/ virgin are now cheaper without the pruhealth plus £25 on top a month....

Hi my 6mths is almost up and i was thinking of cancelling - so i phoned up and i was told i would have to pay back the 6mths gym membership if i was to cancel.

Has anybody else been told the same?

Are you talking about the cancelling the gym or the policy??

I read somewhere that the gym could be cancelled after 6 months or continueed at £25 pm. is this not correct
  • I wanted to try this for the free 6 months membership, but at my age it will cost me about £60. not worth it
