Thanks Rotherham Lass, can i just ask you a quick question, how do you log what youve eaten and work out the calories etc? ive just looked at that website which was recommended on this thread but it looks like im going to have to measure everything im eating and the weights/measurements arent in "standard" portions? just trying to find the easiest way x0 -
Hi all
I haven't been on for a few days, the weather has been too good!!! I have been pretty good foodwise and excellent activitywise.. been pounding the streets on foot and on the bike! I'm so hoping for a loss soon, I am determined to keep going this time.

I also had a problem with portion sizes a few months back but I reduced them slowly and according to what I was doing that day. If I was working I would have 2 weetabix in the morning to keep me going, if I wasn't working I would only have 1. If i'm having a sandwich I now only have 1 slice of bread and cut it in half and make an open sandwich, you still get the illusion of a sandwich but without a slice of bread on the top (it still looks the same amount as a normal sandwich to me :rotfl:).
Bike riding should really help, i've just got myself an exercise bike which I go on everyday. Things like cleaning can be classed as exercise as well, just put on some music and get the hoover out and boogy away. Remember also to make sure you drink enough, when I measured everything I drank in a day last week it wasn't even a litre
. Finally please don't 'starve' yourself if you're feeling hungry. Try having a drink and see if that helps but if not have a piece of fruit. I made this mistake last year when I did Slimfast and actually put on weight as my body went into starvation mode because I was always feeling hungry. Try eating little and often and don't be too hard on yourself if you fancy a treat every now and then (I ate a whole mini toberlorone (sp?) the other night
).
Yes, it is a very scary thing isn't it Charlie.
I drink lots of water so that's one good thing. The bike is really helping. I'm going out every day for at least an hour and choosing routes with hills so that I really work hard. My bum hurts, not from the exertion but from the saddle lol!!! But I will keep at it, I so want to lose this weight.Hi Tara
Sorry you're having such a rubbish time at the moment. I just wanted to say that you don't necessarily need to give up stuff, it might just take a few substitutions or calculations to help things along.
Ie with the toast - I sacrificed my love for the Toastie loaf and switched to those half sized loaves instead. The Warburtons wholemeal one (as an example) is only 55 cals a slice, so two or three slices of that and a bit of spread is really not high in calories at all. It keeps me going till lunchtime so it might be worth a try for you.
And in the MSE spirit (cos I don't want you to bankrupt yourself on buying shop salads) why don't you sit down and work out the calorie content of a few of your typical lunches? It's a bit faffy at first but once you've done it it's done! Large portions aren't necessarily a bad thing, it just depends what they're made up of. I had a huge dinner of stirfry the other evening and the calorie content was really quite low cos it was mostly veg with just a few rice noodles chucked in. Once you know how many calories are in your typical sized portion of rice or spuds or pasta, it's dead easy to guestimate the rest of the meal, even when you're cooking it all from scratch.
Oh and I've lost another pound this week
Heresy!!!!!!!!!!!! Alex, thanks for the tip hon, but if I'm going to have toast it needs to be proper buttered toast, not a skinny loaf with spread - been there, tried that. I'm glad it works for you, I just wish it worked for me! It wouldn't satisfy me at all, so I need to just give up toast altogether! I am only having it at weekends atm so that's a good compromise. I do try to substitute but sometimes you just can't.
Good idea about calculating the calorie content of HM meals. I do try to go heavy on the veg and light on everyting else. I must say, I'm enjoying my M&S salads enormously! Today it was sprouted peas and beans with a mint dressing, totally yummy. I splashed out and bought a pack of prawns to eat with it. Nyum nyum! I know it's not MSE but I am grateful to have it all done for me and not have to make my own lunch. It frees up time for cycling!
p.s. congrats on the loss!!! :THello everyone,:hello:
I can't believe I have only just found this thread and today of all days. What a wonderful idea. 2010 is going to be the year I am taking control of my life. Already making big inroads into the debt. Now to take control of my health.
Last night I had a revelation. I have put on 20lb since I met my husband and last night he admitted he doesn't like it. In fact after I met him I got down to 8st 5. Now I am 10st 1.
That would be okay if I didn't have a small frame (so I am now mostly made of fat:rotfl:) and I have a ridiculously fast metabolism, (yes I really have had to consume some calories to gain this weight:p). I really have no excuse for this weight gain.
So today is the first day. I would love to join the end of your month's challenge and try to lose 2 lbs and then go for the 7lb in June in earnest. I would love to feel like I was part of a group that I can talk to every day. Please say I can join. Can I, can I?:j
Was feeling quite positive today, and this thread has actually made me feel excited.
Banwa
Welcome banwa! You are just the same as me weightwise (I weighed the same when I met my OH and am now 10st and have 32% body fat, eek!). Can't believe you work in a chocolate factory, double eek!!! And the person who was cheeky to you so deserved a slap.
Welcome de1amo also!!! :A
bills - sorry about your toe, hope you are getting lots of TLC!!
vicki - not to worry about the half stone, you will lose it no problem xoxo

I'm having a go at slimming world at the moment. I went years ago and kept all the books so am now going it alone. I tried the calorie counting website but couldn't really get to grips with it - I tend to guess amounts rather than weigh them!I prefer it when you can eat what you want of "good" food rather than calculate how many calories are in a slice of cake and how many biscuits you are allowed.
If you fancy giving weightwatchers a go the Quidco offer is still on - 3 months membership works out as free after cash back and there is a food tracker on there that gets you into good habits.

how does this equation sound--my bmr on empty is 1700 -plus 500 cals a day for normal movement equals 2200 to stay the same weight---exercise at gym per day 700 --so available intake 2900--yesterdays intake(a bad day) 1500 so net loss 1400 calories x 7 days of the week--9800 calories.---one pound of fat/lean takes 3500 calories to burn therefore 9800 divided by 3500 equals 2,8lbs a week loss----about what i have been doing it at---22lbs in 7 weeks.- my bad day yesterday was very naughty for me and due to the fact i dropped down below 1000 calories on sunday!
i am now in the healthy bmi zone and my loss this week looks like only 1lb --do i lessen my exercise or eat more?? or am i now at the point where i should maintain--i am 47 and have the middleage spread despite loosing all the excess fat elsewhere--my neck is down to 14,5 but my hip to waist is still a about 2pc too high-my weight is 75kgs with a bmi of 24,5. the dietician i saw at the gym set me a target of 70kgs which is the same weight i was in my prime at 31-i like most normal human beings have thickened in middle age!
Before we start june's thread is there scope to show percentage of body weight lost--people with more to lose tend to weigh in with bigger figures than people like me who are closer to optimum weight??-eric who is not my biggest fan looses bigger figures and thinks i am doing it all wrong when i loose a smaller amount but a bigger percentage of my weight--a 1lb is the normal amount --big or small people!!!mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0 -
Cor May is nearly over! and with that in mind I have set up June's thread

Suze1984 good to see you - I can add you to this month if you wish or you can jump in next month - entirely up to you!
de1amo - if you want to put down proportion of weight lost then go ahead (provided you also give poundage so that I can add it to the group total)
I weigh in again this afternoon - should be fun :rotfl:Do not meddle in the affairs of Dragons, for thou art crunchy and good with catsup
