KGB Deals: Cineworld ticket £1

Had the same problem as other people. Booked a pair of tickets online for Cineworld Haymarket. When we got there, the machine wasn't working. Had to queue for the box office.
The box office girl put the reservation code into the system. It showed just one ticket. Fortunately, I had read this thread first, so I had my confirmation printout with me. The girl called a supervisor, who let us into the cinema.0 -
"When I checked with my credit card company, they have been trying to reach me since Sunday to cancel my new card, as someone (not me) has been trying to use it 4 days after I signed up for the kgbdeals cinema deal.
It gets worse: the only time this card has been used since November is for -- ta da! -- kgbdeals!!!!!
Has anyone else but me had the card they used for kgbdeals attacked?"
I have been okay with my cards so far but a friend I recommended to the deal has had people stocking up on mobile airtime on the card she used and again its not one she uses regularly as she generally deals in cash. Lucky her card company picked up on it but she has had to destroy the card. Now she doesn't know if she even get the deal as you are supposed to use the same card to pick up the ticket. I'm feeling mightly guilty for recommended it to her in the first place now. I've been checking my cards daily now for fraudulent transactions just in case their is a connection, but as you say it might just be a coincidence.
Can anyone at MSE just reassure me that this site has been fully checked out and this is just a coincidence as my friend has lost all faith in me and sadly the MSE site!
My partner has had fruadulent transactions on his card today, so i would like to know the same, has KGB been checked out??0 -
Well I have never received my code, yet the money has been charged to my card...total useless...and am I not right in saying that this was recommended by this site???0

Ah, I had hoped I would be the only one.
No, their unsubscribe system doesn't work and so far there is no sign that they respond, or act on emails requesting removal from their distribution list. I'd hoped that maybe they just weren't responding to emails in general, but I see some people have had prompt replies when querying ticket problems.
Of course I could just mark this as spam, but to me it's just annoying that I have been ignored.0 -
I had a response to my unsubscribe email. They apologised and advised they were aware of the problem and asked that I bear with them.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

Sorry to bump an old thread but I just wanted to post my experience of this deal. Me and my partner both purchased codes on separate cards and got the codes sent through no problem. Booked our tickets on Cineworld's website (using the revised codes that were sent through later) and as some people have already mentioned, when it came to collecting the tickets, the orders were not recognised. Luckily we had got the confirmation sent to our mobiles, so a quick show of the text to CS and we were able to get in. That was last week.
Yesterday my partner received a call from Sainsburys Fraud dept saying 2 transactions had been attempted on his card, but that they had been blocked by the team as they were flagged as being potentially fraudulent. Quite lucky they did as the transactions were definitely fraudulent. My partner very rarely uses his CC and prior to the KGB deal, the last time he used his card was about 1 month before. I have been reading the various threads on MSE (both this one and the one on the days out board) and have noticed other people posting comments about fraudulent activity.PrincessLou wrote: »I just ordered a ticket on my card and another one for my boyfriend on his card. Within minutes the fraud department at HSBC phoned him at work to tell him that they had cancelled his card because the site had copied his details and it was fraudulent.I too have just had to have my credit card cancelled and a replacement sent - I don't know if it's in connection with this offer but I did use the card to pay for the kgb cinema ticket.fadedpages wrote: »I've had fraudulent transactions turn up on my card this week too, and the only thing I can think of is this offer. Sounds like there might have been a leak somewhere.

I thought that maybe those people had just been unlucky and that they had viruses or trojans on their computer. As their experiences were a couple weeks/a number of days ago, I also thought that as it hadn't happened to us that we were 'safe'. (classic case of thinking bad things happen to other people and not me).
My partner is a computer programmer and is fanatical about online security so we know it wasn't the computer that had been compromised. I am aware KGB is run by the same group that owns 118 118 and that it is a legitimate site, but on this occasion it seems as if potentially there was an 'inside leak' or their website was hacked (without their knowledge) leading to customer's details being obtained. The number of people on MSE alone posting about fraudulent transactions since using KGB surely can not be a coincidence? I don't know how the unlucky few are being selected, but I guess for us it was simply a case of wrong place, wrong time.
My partner has since cancelled his card and is getting a new one sent. As a precaution (even though there have been no fraudulent transactions on mine) I have also cancelled my card and will be getting a new one sent.
I'm not trying to scare other users, but as a word of warning I would advise those who used this deal at the very least to keep a close eye on their accounts, even though the KGB deal happened a while ago. I shall also be contacting KGB to tell them of my partner's experience.
Don't worry though, this hasn't put me off future deals. I'm too much of a bargain hunter at heart! Roll on the next bargain :rotfl:0 -

What do moneysavingexpert.com have to say about all this?0 -
What do moneysavingexpert.com have to say about all this?
totally agree, whilst mine went through okay and so far no fraudulent stuff.
i really do think that MSE should have this brought to their attention especially as they were the driving force in advertising this campaign.....hope its not an MSE inside job too!! who knows......0 -
To be fair, I'm not sure of MSE's position. I know they recommended the deal, but as far as they were concerned the site and deal was legitimate. They had no way of knowing that KGB would be compromised. But you're right, MSE should be made aware of this which is why I posted about my partner's experience. Sorry it was such a lengthly post tho
