Morning all, a slightly warmer but grey day in Nth Lan.
Well done JenFeet on the vermin battle, have you worked out how they are getting in? If it through a small hole stop it up with steel wool, it's a foolproof barrier to them, their teeth cannot cope with it.
Yes gardening can be an expensive business elantan even for experienced gardeners, but the good thing is on this forum there is always someone who has good ideas on doing everything cheaper. As you go on with your growing and planting you will start to take cuttings, save seeds and divide plants so it all becomes soooo much more economical. Not forgetting that swapping seeds, cuttings and excess seedlings with neighbours is always a good route to go down.

    Don't forget Beechgrove Garden 7.30 BBC1 tonight.

That's if you can see it because the ha-ar is in :( I am fed up of this grey miserable weather.

Make the most of it, according to the forecast the temp is to drop over the weekend:eek: Mind you most of the forecasts for Nth Lanarkshire have been wrong for weeks.

    Hi All

I fell behind in my gardening as I have a helper at the moment helping me with some heavy landscaping.... but it stops me fretting about my plants.... I have to try and remember where I put the vine weavil killer last year as my fuschias are starting to come on and the little blighters will be munching away at the roots as I write this.....

I have some pot holders on the top part of my wrought iron balustrade and I wondered if anyone had any ideas of what I can plant in them.... Over the years, I have tried ivy leafed geraniums, trailing fuschias, pansies, busy lizzies but, no avail, .... It is west facing and, although I take them down if there is a wind... I can't really do that if it's windy during the night.... It's such a shame that I can't use them.... the plants struggle to grow there in this exposed site ... even if I wait until they are quite big..... I am a experienced gardener so I know it's the occasional blast of wind and not drought etc that is ruining them.....

I wonder if I could use thyme or some other tough plant instead... go for smell instead of flower ??????

    cheers

Hello peeps, not a lot of gardening done today, it was a bit too cold and grey until 1 hour ago when the sun broke through.
Went to Morrisons and could not resist the geraniums, so came home with 12 wee plants for £3.
Officeguru you could try planting heathers in your pots, especially as there are so many varieties these days. I have a hanging basket that not only takes a fair belt of the wind off openness of the golf course in front of the house that I filled with sedums. They are only occasionally watered and survived the dreadful winter, ice, snow and wind.

Thanks for that, Grebe... I never thought of heathers...
