The Scottish Gardeners thread
Hi all! Feel free to merge if there is one... I can't seem to see it!
Scotland has been soo slow this year I am wondering (Just like the other threads) where everyone is in their gardening. Me? I have my bushes planted, had to move a rhubarb as it got flooded and planted some berries.
Pots are out as are the peas (they are growing mentally!) Spinach is a huge healthy crop ready to eat as is lettuce
I will pot out my other plants when I'm sure the weather is better
SO what are you up to?

What part of Scotland are you in op? I am in Lanarkshire and to date have only got my potatoes in as I feel it is still too cold.
I lost all my toms, peppers, cucumbers, that were in the greenhouse.
i will get everything planted probably over the next week though. Potatoes are not showing through yet, but won't be far away.
Rhubarb is doing fine and starwberries are starting to show a bit of new growth. My apple, pear and plum trees are still more or less at the budding stage.
I don't think its been any slower this year than last to be honest, maybe the trees etc are a week or 2 behind but think thats all0 -
Im in south Lan and my trees are all in blossom
still im not risking any more of the plants yet- they are in the sun room lol
My pots are showing through and the soil around the leaves are becoming a frequent occurrance.
I'm pretty lucky I have a south facing garden so it gets the sun all day when it's out.Feb GC: £200 Spent: £190.790 -
:rotfl:believe it or not,im in Lanarkshire too(North, but grew up in South)..this is my 1st year attempting any type of gardening,so its raised beds, pots and plastic growhouse(cucumbers/tomatoes in there, surviving but growing very slowly...the ones indoors are growing better)...outdoors in my raised bed i have cabbage, kale and all year lettuce just sprouted through at the weekend, then this morning i noticed some "grass like"seedlings that im assuming are carrots(either that or stray grass seeds that have landed in my raised bed!)..my potatoes are only just peeking green shoots through, and out of 12 onions only 4 are showing fresh green shoots..im waiting on beetroot and spring onions(and majority of carrots)making an appearance...I also have a germinated cucumber/courgette and French bean "plants".indoors, gonna sow more of these when im off work tomorrow.
PS,gonna sow salad leaves, lettuces, and herb type seeds over the next few days too.Slimming World..Wk1,..STS,..Wk2,..-2LB,..Wk3,..-3.5lb,..Wk4,..-2.5,..Wk5,..-1/2lb,Wk6,..STS,..Wk7,..-1lb.

Hi all, I am in North Lanarkshire as well:rotfl:
I have my pots in but they are barely peeking through, I have sown carrots, beetroot, lettuce and rocket outside and inside toms, peppers, basil and parsley.
The winter has destroyed quite a few of my plants and shrubs and everything seems to be coming in very very slowly this year."To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill" Sun Tzu0 -
Hi everyone, I'm another South Lanarkshire one! I've just started gardening this year and with no success as yet. I've sown tomatoes, cucumbers, aubergines, chillis, peppers and salad leaves indoors. Bought myself a plastic greenhouse so some out there and some still on windowsills etc. Sown some salad outdoors and strawberries outdoors. Yesterday I was sowing some parsnips and leeks for winter and noticed a little robin following me around.
Great! I thought, read in my magazines that birds are good for slugs etc so handy for a garden. I have 4 cats so as surprised to see it there at all, we never have birds in our garden unless they are sadly dead... However, it only occurred to me (after seeing it again) that maybe it's following me around and eating what I'm planting? I thought it was just eating some worms etc that I was digging up but maybe it's actually after the seeds? Is this quite likely? Will I have to replant everything under nets or similar?:rudolf: Christmas Addict! :rudolf:0 -
I reckon Robins like company, we have a couple in our garden and they will watch as I work away. Even if your wee Robin takes a few seeds it's nothing to the pleasure of watching the cheek of them not being scared of you. Have you tried hand feeding it? out of sight of the cats of course."To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill" Sun Tzu0

I saw a very large hungry fat pigeon eat all of my bulbs in the winter, I know my fruit bushes certainly need netting soon.
Also Bullfinches are terrible for eating fruit tree buds! So I'm gonna make a scarecrow.... Hope it works!Feb GC: £200 Spent: £190.790 -

Can you hand feed a robin? Wow... I have a couple in the trees behind the house!Feb GC: £200 Spent: £190.790 -
The birds always have most of my redcurrants every bliddy year. I have made a nifty wee tent to cover them this year, so here's hoping."To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill" Sun Tzu0
