  • Wow HariboJunkie, I am truly impressed, are you sure you are not my sister? She has plants growing all over her house, in her greenhouse and in various raised beds in her garden. Funny thing is I am the one that is retired and she works full time and still gets more done than me :o

I'm in Glasgow and have only just got round to planting my seeds. I don't know about you guys but I found that the snow, frost and rain has postponed any work I have been able to do in the garden. I managed to get out to dig over my veg patch while the lo had chicken pox but we were digging through the frost and a day later it was under a foot of snow!!

I have now had a look round the remnants of my garden and the cherry, pear and apple trees have survived the winter and are now budding well. I have been happy to discover the raspberry bush that dh chopped with the strimmer last year has come back with a vengence and is now about 20x the size it was and has spread like wildfire. My blackberry and blackcurant trees have both survived and the strawberries aren't as bad as I thought they were!!

So this year I will be planting sweetcorn as I attempt to get that to grow. I have some pumpkins and watermelons from a freecycler which are going from strength to strength. Then there's the usual suspects of cauli's brocolli, pots, parsnip, toms, among others....Just bought a blueberry tree from tesco so everything is crossed for themost adventurous year yet.....

South Lanarkshire here too! Well I've got some tatties in and my rhubarb has taken off. Got myself a little plastic greenhouse and started some seeds which are doing well but think it's still a bit cold to be planting them out yet.
I actually came on here to find some recipes for rhubarb cause I usually end up doing crumble. Happy gardening everybody.

    Hi Pondskater :hello:

This might help. Rhubarb thread. :)

    Haribo,

I thought you guys would be a good month or so behind us. I am impressed.
  • A total newbie here (also in South Lanarkshire), will be very interesting to see what you are all able to grow and when as I am only just getting 'into' the garden this year.

This morning, I popped into the greenhouse to water the busy lizzies... They are only tiny plug plants (first time I have bought them) and remembered not to water them from above... so I filled a tray with some water and popped the little pots in it (about half way up)... I pinched out the tips of the surfinas and fushias and I had a look at the ones I overwintered in the greenhouse... they are in my big tent type cold frame... in large pots... and they are just starting to come away.... I'll be taking the coldframe off them next week and I'll water in the stuff to kill the vine weevil.... That way, I'll be able to pot up my hanging baskets and put them in their place... I have my herbs hardening off and I sent away for 3 regal geraniums... I love these and they seem to be difficult to get these days.... so I've potted the little plants and I have high hopes... They are still in the greenhouse obviously.... I was going to have to water the garden but, thankfully, it rained so it saved me the bother.... Why do I have so many pots... it takes me hours in the summer to water them all.... it must be a phobia...... I'll let you know how I get on with my own compost this year.... I have chickens and it's the first year I have chicken poo mixed in with it.... It might save me a fortune in liquid fertilizers....

Anyway, I am off the now to do some more gardening....
