I had no idea you could hand feed them, but you are right it doesnt seem at all bothered about me being there and digging away.

I'm going to break the Lanarkshire trend - I'm in central.

We're in a new house so everything is more or less from scratch. The front of the house is turfed and the back was seeded. The back grass is a bit of a disaster, so we're working out what we're going to do with it. Husband mowed it yesterday and I raked out the worst of the dead grass which was about half of it! We're thinking of rotavating it and starting again.

So apart from a little border I've cut into the grass at the front everything I'm doing at the minute is in pots and containers.

Grebe - That's an amazing pic. We've started getting goldfinches into the garden.

We have a Kanzan out front which is just about to bloom, can't wait! :)

    Hi All

I am in Fife... I've got all my bedding plants in the greenhouse still.. except for the minature carnations and bellis daisies that are hardy enough... they were in the cold frame and they are now outside under my table waiting to get planted... I've replaced them with margueretes, bedding lavatera and wild strawberry plants.. Once they have been hardened off, I'll start putting the tender bedding plants into the cold frame... roughly in a fortnight's time... I don't plant any of them out until I see the parks department plant theirs !!!

I lost quite a few shrubs over the winter... lavender, ceanothus, rock roses, lavateria shrubs, rosemary took a blast... and I bet there are others, but I don't know it yet... I've dug up an apple tree.. it wasn't very old but the apples tasted rubbish so I have planted a couple of new ones.. I am hoping they are better.... I also planted other fruit trees a couple of years ago and the tags faded in the sun so I can't remember what they are... but I was going to dig them out but they have blossom on them so they are being kept... the pear tree is also full of blossom at the moment...

I think that's about all, except I powerwashed the driveway and one of my chickens got out into nextdoor and I haven't a clue how that happened, but they have 2 dogs and she won't last long if she does it again !!! I am off to make the dinner

    Cheers

    I just thought I would join in:D

In Lanarkshire too, and just looking to get started out in the veg growing, think this year might be a digging one and research though:cool:

I see from the news that this years flowering Cherries are supposed to be spectacular, the ones that have already flowered down south are lovely so yours should be brill this year.

HI all, good to have an independant thread!

I'm in East Renfrewshire and it's fairly cold and damp where we are, so we're always behind everywhere else. My trees are only just coming into leaf for instance.

I have a constant battle with my DH over the garden - he bungs in far too many plants and puts them on top of stuff of mine:mad: eg recently planted a gooseberry on top of my peony
He kindly lets me use the shaded side of the garden - how nice of him!

( that robin pic is great)
Just call me Nodwah the thread killer
  • South Lanarkshire here too! Well I've got some tatties in and my rhubarb has taken off. Got myself a little plastic greenhouse and started some seeds which are doing well but think it's still a bit cold to be planting them out yet.
I actually came on here to find some recipes for rhubarb cause I usually end up doing crumble. Happy gardening everybody.

I'm in the Highlands but have a pretty sheltered garden. My cabbages, garlic and lettuce are growing away in the veg beds, spuds are in and salads sown in pots. Peas sown but not doing alot. Salads sown in the greenhouse are nearly ready to eat now. Tomatoes, courgettes, cucumber and peppers are potted on. All hanging baskets are done but still in the greenhouse. Lots of buds on the apple, pear and cherry trees but no blossom yet.
I still have daffs that haven't flowered due to the permafrost over the winter :D and have lost a few shrubs like ceanothis and lavender.

We have had a really dry spell followed by 3 days of rain and suddenly everything is happening at once in the garden.:)

Guess where I am? No actually, I am S/ Lanarkshire too. My tatties have been earthed up twice, although one bucket never did well as I drowned them. Tomatoes and Peppers are outside in the greenhouse now, and I'm just about to pot on some other seedlings. I have Asparagus growing in a bucket but found out today I'll need to shift it, although I wasn't expecting a crop this year anyway. Does anyone know when it would be safe to move it? I have fruit canes in but won't get any this year. This is a good idea for a fred.
