Hello peeps, The weather has been scorchio in Nth Lan these days. I really must get an outside tap in, all this carrying buckets of water is wearysome and sooooooooooooooooo boring. On saying that every plant seems to be doing well. The ants are still trying to take over so I am going to put some ant killer powder down. Has anyone any experience of growing holly hocks? I planted mine as seeds three years ago and while I get superb huge leaves I have never had any flowers! I assume they able to be grown in Scotland, we are not that cold are we?
Jinx don't worry about the scorch on the tomato leaves it happens to everyone at some point when growing toms. To be honest the leaves do that when there is too much direct sun, when it's remotely windy and when they need a feed. They really are greedy plants.
Hope you are all enjoying the sunshine, this week I will be watering the plants but doing nothing else in the garden as I will be organising a special party for my DS he has passed his degree and will graduate on Thursday:j:j

Hey Peeps,
Haven't been around much since I was away on my hodilays.....and because we've been having such fantastic weather here all my seedlings have withered. Next door was going to water them while we were away but I don't know how often he got round to do it and they are all looking worse for wear. Even the one's I managed to plant out before we went are pretty dead except for the sweetcorn.
That'll teach me!! So me thinks this year we will focus on the fruit which is planted straightinto the garden anyway and go on a massive weekd cull this year and hopefully get some of those recurring ones which just won't die!! Any suggestions?
Scan on Monday for delerium jnr so fingers crossed everything is ok there and it hasnt' withered with the hot weather!!

Feeling very pleased with myselfGot loads more to plant still but think i may need to build another or can I plant between them??

Hello peeps:D wish there was a was an emoticon that could show sun burned Scot totally sunburned:rotfl::rotfl:
Let's face it the reason no one is posting is that this sustained delish warm weather is so rare for us we are all outdoors as much as we can. :smileyhea wssla00
DS's graduation went well, OMG I so lurve my babies, next summer will see me watch my DD become Doctor grebe she is the godess of all knowledge of very very early medieval history and within 6 months DS will have added his MPhil. to his title.:D
Okays back to the Scottish gardening thread, OMG I have a now growing admiration of ANTS:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: the bliddy gits have sooooooooooooooooo may ways to avoid being .........elimminated Powder that kills, water that boils them, powders that poisons them, sprays that might, in an perfect universe way say " We are all one, please do not fneck with the plants in my garden then I will need to blast you to hell with chemicals.
Okays my lovely Scottish gardening peeps I am off, late in the evenings, and a might weary
Hope all is well with you and yours.

Congrats Jinx:T I bet it tasted like heaven:D
So my fellow Scottish peeps, are well all suitably damp and rainy? You can just hear the plants sigh with happiness
At last my redcurrants are turning red and one, yes only one of my toms are also turning red!!!!
I am not sure what is happening this year with the nasturtium seeds I planted, they are supposed to be the ones that climb and ramble up to 8ft, and so far they are no more than 8 inches:( By now they should be going bonkers.
The ants have impressed me once again. On watching the wee gits milking, yes milking (check it out on wiki:eek::eek:) aphids on a tree branch ( no idea what the tree is it just arrived and grew three years ago ) a very pretty ladybird flew onto the very patch where they were, OMG the ants went berserk and within seconds attacked it!! the wee thing fell off and of course me being me had to scrabble about in the patch of sedum it landed in to make sure it was okay. It was fine, it staggered about for a wee while on my hand but it managed to fly away so that was fine.
Hope all is well with every ones gardens in this unusually warm Scottish weather.

We got a bit rain but not much.. I was checking my onions and they arent getting any bigger underneath - its all thick green leaves. Is there anything I can do to fix that ? Grebe , I think its very anti-ant to call them wee gits. The wee sods might hear you !0

Mardatha, sounds like your onions are doing well I would just let them get on with it. According to my neighbour (old chap with tons of gardening experience) the thicker the stem at the base of the onion leaves the bigger the onion will be!"To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill" Sun Tzu0

Afternoon all, glad to hear people's gardens are blooming.
Just thought I'd let you know 'I have beans!' yay!!!! (And a 3" courgette!)
And I had a strawberry, but it fell off! Seriously it grew to about half an inch diameter, turned red, then fell off. I water every day, don't want to water too much, but do they need loads of the stuff, or do they need some sort of food?
Also, I fed my tomato plants - only the once at the weekend, cos they've been in the growbags about a month, and I thought they'd start to need it by now, but it sounds like I shouldn't have done - will I have done them any harm? No fruit or flowers on them yet, about a foot high.
Any advice welcome.
ThanksIt doesn't hurt to be optimistic....you can always cry later.
