It was just one of those generic ex catalogue shops, nowhere near Aberdeen I'm afraid - but that arch in the Wilkinsons link looks exactly the same and is cheaper too, so bingo! :T

i have been searching about the forum for cucumber advice, but thought i was better to ask in the Scottish Gardeners thread in the end......i have bought some marketmore (?) seeds and started them off but it does say they are ok outside is this a myth? particularly up here? My greenhouse is so busy with he way the weather has been that i will have to suspend them from the ceiling if i cant put them outside! Anyone share their experiences?

I would have thought that they were best grown in a greenhouse in Scotland. If you have to grow them outside eventually, then provide cloche protection till they start flowering.
This page gives information on growing them:- http://www.growyourown.info/page103.html

It's a beautiful day here today.. have planted some baby buddleias at the side of the shed and near the compost heap - hoping they will grow big and camouflage some not so nice bits and attract lots of wildlife.

I also sowed some dried peas (a la Alys Fowler) and some salad leaves, think I might have left it a bit late but hey ho!

Is buddleia tough and can it stand exposed windy sites ? I'm 1000ft up.
  • Hi all

Well ive planted some tatties in my veg patch and im just wondering if anyone knows if im too late to plant onion and garlic? Also do you think its safe to sow carrot seeds directly into the veg patch? Hope you all had a gorgeous day like we had here in perth, long may it continue, gardening is so much nicer in the sun. x

I reckon it is - it seems to spread of its own accord and colonise all sorts of unlikely areas. You see lots of the bushes on railway verges. We have one that just appeared in the garden [not fully grown of course that would just be weird]. Can't vouch for their ability to stand exposed sites but they are certainly tough plants

Don't know how hardy they are to extreme frost, but they can definitely stand a lot of wind (used to grow them 700ft up at top of sea cliff North Cornwall)
