Can anyone shed any light on this . I am living with a partner who works 40 hrs a week and I am on maternity allowance. He gets paid 18,000 and I get 120 per week. However tax credits say we are entilted to £0. However when I was on Job seekers allowance I was being paid £130.00 in tax credits. It really does not make sense ??????/

You will not be entitled to WTC, you should be entitled to CTC. Don't forget to disregard £100 a week of your MA. You should ask TCO to base it on the current year but you mst overestimate to avoid an overpayment.

It is posible there is an overpayment if you are not receiving CTC.

You dont declare any of the MA as income to tax credits. Salary and SMP are declarable - but only the amount over £100 p/wk.

Is MA totally disregarded, I did not realise that?!
  • Yes, it's regarded as a non-taxable benefit rather than a taxable benefits/earnings.

  • Why is it then that at 22 I can not claim Working Tax Credit but at 25 I can? I cant make ends meet now? Why am I more entitled to help when I'm 25? It doesnt make sense! Surely a cold hungry 22 yr old is just as bad as a cold hungry 25 yr old? Right?

If you would like to discuss this point you are welcome to start a new thread on the discussion board.

Basically the government thinks that most under 25 year olds will be living at home and therefore do not need WTC. There needs to be a line drawn somewhere.

If you want to make a new thread discussing your circumstances on this board perhaps we can help you to other entitlements.

hi, has anybody claimed for the fruit and veg vouchers for children ?

I am just wondering how long they take to come through as it has been more than a month now for us.

Also, has anybody managed to back date these at all, because we have only just realised we were entitled to these for about 6 months.

    Thanks very much.

I'm single but house share with a friend we're renting privately. Neither of us are on very high salaries - my friend earns under £15,000 p.a. and I'm on around £19,500 p.a. We're both struggling at the moment, neither of us had a pay increase for over 2 years but the bills etc are going up all the time. Would we be entitled to any benefits like tax credits or anything like that?

Unless you are disabled, you would not be entitled to Tax Credits with those incomes.

i have a disabled daughter and have been on IS and CA for the past 10 years, in this time i have never received a cold weather payment. i understand i am entitled to this and understand the restrictions attached. i would like to know how to claim, how to get proper evidence of temperatures and who to contact. is there anyone out there who has received/claimed CWP's or knows of them and knows how to go about it.
  • I am 61, married, and my hours of work have just been slashed to 9 at 6.95 per hour.
A younger single colleague on the same hours, has been awarded Jobseekers, and I would like to know if I can claim contribution based Jobseekers ( as I have savings over £16000.) I started claiming my state pension of £53 from January, as at that time I had been ill and didn't expect to be able to return to work, and had only ssp to live on at that time.I suspect I may have shot myself in the foot by panicking about bills and deciding to draw my pension!
My husband is self employed on around £15000 per year
