    Hi,

I realise in the OP is states to read the thread but it's massive! I have searched to the best of my ability and believe this question has not been raised yet, so was hoping someone could point me in the right direction!
    In the actual article it says;
Unsurprisingly the social security system is a nightmare of complexity, so it's impossible to easily summarise exactly who's eligible for payments. Yet it is easy to say who should check; cash may be available for anyone in one or more of the following groups.
    • Those with dependent children and a family income less than £58,000, or £66,350 if you have a baby under 1, a disabled child or a large family and you spend a lot on childcare .
    • Those without children in work earning less than £16,000.
    • Those who are out of work.
    • Anyone with an illness or disability.
    • Carers, guardians, recent parents and the over sixties.
The point that I can't seem to find any information about is the "Those without children in work earning less than £16,000". I have looked around but can't find anything about it.

Is anyone able to elaborate upon this?

    Thanks in advance.

I'm 22, single, earning £14,000. I have a mortgage and struggle to live every month but i am not entitled to any benefits to help me until i am 25 and only if i am still earning £14K when i'm 25... which to be honest i hope to be earning a lot more... where is that right?

What benefits are you entitled to if earning £14,000 and aged 25? This might be the answer for my previous post.

    (Apologies for the double post)
  • I earn £17,346.16 per year GROSS. I live with my partner and 2 children. What am I entitled to benefits wise?

Hi, I am sorry but I am feeling a litle bit thick.

What exactly is Income based Jobseeker's Allowance? Are there two different types? Income based Jobseeker's Allowance and Jobseeker's Allowance?

Basically my OH is going to be made redundant soon, and I am checking to see what benefits we should be able to claim. I looked on healthystart.co.uk and it says that you can receive vouchers per week for under 4 year olds.

Also, do I need to let working tax credits people know that he is being made redundant, and then do we get nothing from them, because he won't have a job? So we will be even worse off?!

Sorry, there are so many different things out there. I wish there was a check list of what you need to do once redundancy occurs, who you tell, what you do, every stage, for people like us that haven't got a clue!
  • Single (and that means sinlge living alone no partner cat dog or mouse!), worked all your life, never claimed a bean and now I am redundant. What help is there £60 a week and no council tax! I struggled to buy a property years ago and have never earned more than £16k a year but I always paid my way or went without. I am not laiden with debt because I am not extravagant. I have a small mortgage and 70% equity in my property. I could sell it, but then I would have to rent somewhere that would cost twice as much as the mortgage I paid now. When is this government going to provided in these "crisis" times for the silent workers, who dont moan and groan, they get up an out there for over 30 years in all weathers for up to 60 hours a week. Anyone got Gordons mobile number? I think we need a chat Any ideas on how to live off £60 a week and keep sane greatfully received. PS Martin Do you have any thoughts for the singledoms of this world?

can you have a word with your mortgage provider and ask what minimum payment you can pay at the moment, same maybe with all the utilities, council tax, etc? Also, do you have a spare room that you can rent out? Don't know if this counts against you for claims.
  • Thanks for reply, yes I am going to see them but to be honest my very basic outgoings are more than £60 a week so there is no room for payment of anything else. I will try and ask for payment holiday for a couple of months. It just really frustrates me that when you are really trying, there is no help and yet if I was a tenant and hadnt taken any risk or responsibilty on I would get some help!! I only have a small spare room and a small house so a lodger would really not be a choice I would like to take.

not sure if they still do it, but years ago my gran took in a lodger from the police, so if you were worried about the type of person who ended up in your spare room, this may be a route you could go down? Anyway, I know how you feel. It does feel very frustrating when you have always worked your hardest, and then you get dropped, just like that. The minimum payment they can get away with is absolutely jaw dropping as well, considering most people take some time to find another job these days. Isn't it a week for every year you have worked? It really should be a month for every year. The government really need to look into this.

    Hi

I have had a god look but don't think this has been asked yet.

I am due to start maternity leave, for which I will get full pay for the first 26 weeks, my wage will then reduce to £117 per week (SMP). I am trying to work out how much time a can reslistically afford to have off and wondered whether I would be able to claim CTC for the time I am only being paid £117 p/w?

When I am on mu full wage, with my husbands income, this takes us above the threshold, but on SMP we are below.

    Does anyone know?

    Thanks in advance.
