  • Hi,

Having just been given my redundancy notice, am looking into what I would be entitled to if, after 21 years of continued employment I can not find new employment.

    I ran a calcualtion for myself on Entitledto.co.uk as per;
Married (not working or claiming benefit / housewife)
    3x children (1x 3yo & 2x 21mths)
    Mortgage in excess of £100000

It said I was entitled to £833 per week! (after 39weeks). This surely cant be right? Its more than I currently earn!!

Having insured myself for being made redundant, would this monthly payment be classed as additional income on the entitledto claculator?

    Hi Andy597,

    Welcome to MSE.

It may be worth starting a new thread, as this one is a bit all over the place. To do that, just go on to the main Benefits board, and click on the New Thread button at the top x

  • We are an over 60's couple (both aged 63), I am unemployed with savings. My wife works 5 hours per week. What is the maximum figure in savings you are allowed before it affects your eligibility to Pension Credit. I get a small annuity of £203 per month.
  • My husband has been unable to work for 6 months due to a fit but was on full pay. Now his pay will half for the next 6 months. I work full time but we have a lot of bills due to moving house in feb this year. Is it likely we will be able to claim any benefits to top up his earnings. His Gross income monthly is £1,600

see Macmillan website - search for uk Macmillan and look up campaign.

This is a problem I am facing, told by my consultant that I should give up work as I have been given only a couple of good years left, yet I can not afford to do so as I have no savings and am only just able to afford the mortgage at present, my husband is in a low paid job and it is very uncertain that he will keep it as business not going well in this economic climate. I have applied for disability living allowance as I had hoped to cut my hours at work, but all I have been given is £17. Working makes me very tired and find my evenings and weekends are used for recovering rather than enjoying life and visiting family and friends, it is very frustrating.
Have tried the calulator, said I was entitled but the powers that be say I am not!!

I just went on the entitled to and did a check. According to the site we don't qualify for any kind of tax credits, but somehow qualify for CTB and HB. My wife earns £14400 after tax a year. Should we put a claim in?

I'm over 60 as is my wife.

I've never claimed anything as our saving are over 100k.
Been retired since 50 years old.
We live overseas for 6 months of the year during the winter.

    Two questions.

Can I claim for the Winter Fuel Allowance?

    Should I?
No reliance should be placed on the above.
  • I've been out of work for over a year now and have been living off saving - up till now all i knew was you cannot claim jobseekers allowance where savings are greater than £3k. Applied for JSA about 3 weeks ago and found out that the threshold was increased to £16k hence requested backdated payments.

Received a letter today saying this wasn't a good enough reason. i was trying to be as truthful as possible as I hate the idea of claiming benefits and have been scrimping and saving only to be told I should i probably have been more creative in my response.

Is there any way i can dispute this or would i just be wasting my time?

    Hi emeralddreams,

Unfortunately not knowing that you were eligible is not a valid reason for backdating, unless you were misadvised by a DWP employee (unlikely as the £3K amount changed several years ago). Sorry x
