    Thank you. :T

Poet, You must be very thick skinned if you wouldn't find someone referring to you as a little Hitler in a completely inflammatory thread on another board offensive. And I think that you calling Penny childish on this thread is also completely unneccesary and very unkind.

Must go to bed now or sit on my hands. This is horrible.:(

I was speaking for my posts only, I made that very clear, and the person who did make that comment (which I agree was ill advised ) has explained the context of the comment and apologised. The poster above has referred to dragging this around the board, again I agree with that sentiment, but who is the OP on this thread? Double standards abound here.

I think it is childish to post as the OP has done here, she knew full well what would ensue, but again only certain parties are deemed "guilty".

If you are upset by something, act on it, do not post to gather sympathy or in a very dranatic way for the subject at hand. This is a forum dissent is endemic, and provided it is polite it is perfectly proper to disagree.

Lets get some perpective, the OP is a BG, her actions were questioned in a proper manner for the most part, she didnt like it and has decided to post to tell everyone that, and flounce off in a huff. Somehow I dont think she will be away too long.

And yes, it is horrible, but the blame is not one sided, as it is being portrayed.

Penny, i haven't the slightest idea what has been going on here in this forum today, only the reference you make in the opening post, but I am saddened that you have been made to feel so upset by comments made to you and about you, both here and at some other forum online. There is absolutely no need for that kind of behaviour.

When anyone feels a nasty comment coming on they should step away from the computer and get a reality check.

As a former moderator on a debate site i received my share of abuse and have been called many a name that would be censored here. Some people just don't seem to get that board mods are just online volunteers. Would these same people walk up to an assistant in a charity shop and slander them if they didn't like the way they 'worked'?

    Highly unlikely.

If theses people who have so much to say about you, feel they have valid objections about the way you have moderated, then let them take the proper course and make a complaint through the necessary channels, if not, then it is just personal and that is absolutely absurd in the extreme. Comparing you to the murderer of millions of innnocent children, women and men...well, frankly, I find that thoroughly reprehensible and they should be sought out and given a warning, not by you of course, that would only add fuel to the fire, but certainly, by an admin of the forums. No one should be bought to feel so low by the thoughtless and insensitive words of another person, especially when they are shieded by the anonymity that cyberspace affords.

Over the almost 6 years that i have run a blog, I have been called some terrible things, i have even received hate emails and hate comments from those who do not know me personally, but feel the need to pass judgement on me based on nothing more than the words i type on to the screen they see. It's all ever so slightly ludicrous that people think it is acceptable to behave in such a way.

Penny, I don't know what was said - haven't read any OS today. I just read your post about leaving and my heart goes out to you. I really hope you'll feel better soon. I reckon being a Board Guide must be a very tricky job and you've worked really hard to try and keep OS going for all of us who enjoy it. If you made mistakes - so what?! Don't we all! :o I hope you reconsider taking a break but if it's what best for you just know that there'll be a warm welcome if/when you pop back.

Take good care of yourself Penny.
    Hugs,

Sorry that you feel you must leave Penny, as I said on another thread being a board guide can be a thankless task at times and it's not a job I would do. Hopefully you won't be gone for too long and you'll be back raring to go.

For what it's worth I've followed the threads concerned today and if I'm honest I can see both sides of the arguement, it ended up like a playground fight where it seemed like you had to be on one side or the other with inflammatory and petty things said by both camps. :(

It would be nice if a line could be drawn under it all and everyone could go back to being decent, considerate grown-ups respectful of each other's views. And no grudges being held. :)

I'm relatively new to MSE, and I can't believe anyone would say something so hateful, to someone who is just trying to help the site run well.

I hope the break gives you a chance to put this nastiness behind you and that you can come back.

I think it will be a loss to MSE.

    Hi Penelope.

I haven't been posting a lot (or at all) in OS for a long time because well, everyone here knows more than me, but I've been reading, occasionally.

Not having seen the nastiness towards you today, I cannot comment except to say that the net can become quite hard work for a mod or bg, or indeed any user who posts a lot (:o ;)). All I can say is: sometimes people don't want to offend but they come across as rude because it's impossible to use appropriate tone of voice and facial expressions on the net. There are hundreds in here who are wonderful and always considerate, and they are worth staying for.

Take a break Penelope, and enjoy peace and quiet for a while. Hope to see you around again soon. :A

ETA much later: if any abusive posts have been made, I think they just deserve to be ignored. Please don't leave completely. :(

I've not read what has been going on.

But have a rest and come back, I trust that the powers that be on this site, will look at the comments made, and if needed take the relevant action against posters of those comments.

Penny, I really don't know what to say. I've seen all the nastiness (and if people think they weren't being nasty, they should re-read what they've typed before pressing the submit button, to see what they'd think if it was being said to/about them). Seems to me that the more you tried to accommodate people, the more they whined.

Can we all remember that ALL BGs started here as posters, just like everyone else. They have as much right to opinions as everyone else. They just have a few extra buttons to keep everything running smoothly.

Have a good break, don't stay away too long :naughty::)

    ETA -
Someone (somewhere - I can't find it now) mentioned Penny's 'style' of posting, referring to the highlighted words in the Daily sticky. This isn't Penny's 'style' at all, it was agreed a long time ago that this is the best way to word the sticky, and it should be used by the thread starter. The highlighted words are there to remind everyone that the chat is meant to be mostly OS. However, most people change the colour, the message is lost and it all goes way off topic.
