Really?
Do you honestly mean that a mere sort code can tell you anything more than which holding bank it is, even if you mean bank account I would consider that unlikely.
Sorry, but suddenly my radar is thinking this might be a wind up, the most obvious scam known to man..and now a website that apparently can tell you all about a person merely from their sort code?
The website: postcodeanywhere.co.uk
No it doesn't tell you everything you need to know but the 'Validate Bank Details' option location matches with the one on eBay.
Yes my eBay account uses a similar user name.
And no this isn't a 'wind up'.
It is definitely a lesson to be learnt. There are probably many different outcomes to this; as to whether there was a camera in the first place, if it has been sent and where it is. Unluckily for me that is probably my money gone, luckily for me I can now pass on what I have learnt to my friends who don't use online shopping as much as me and maybe save them some money.0 -
Update: I contacted eBay just to see if there was anything they could do. They said whilst they couldn't do anything directly they will help the police with their investigation if needed.0

So far... Nothing is being held at the sorting office, I am going to talk to my bank just in case and I will have the forms for the Small Claims Court by the end of today.
I know talking to my bank is pointless, but then I can rule that out as an option.
The Police is my last resort but now that I have a way of getting his address it's still a possibility.
This gets worse and worse - you bought a camera without seeing an actual photo of it??
Also if you want his address, buy an item off him on ebay(a cheap item), you can then obtain his contact details from ebay.RadicalRooster wrote: »Update: I contacted eBay just to see if there was anything they could do. This is very unlikely as it has nothing to do with them.
Reading through this thread I have come to the conclusion that you are very naive or this is a wind-up.My daughters are my world0 -
thing is rich, your camera listing looks totally a legit and honest listing
i find it a struggle you fell for this when you seem to know your stuff about listing/selling0 -

Being a student, a camera at this price was pretty reasonable. I know the saying 'if it's too good to be true it probably is' but considering it was second hand and had been used, it was a pretty average price. I had been looking these for a while and decided to go for it on eBay rather than through Jessops (which obviously I now regret). So I could have spend an extra £200 and got it new, where as now I have probably lost £500.
With some of you now thinking this is a wind up, this really does make me see how stupid I am. I can assure you this is not a wind up, as some of you have put it I will just have to accept I am naive. Whilst you are entitled to your opinions, I would rather you didn't keep accuse me of wasting your time please; this is a lot to deal with as it is.0 -
well i wish you luck and hope its just a dumbass seller who really has sent it 1st class0

thing is,theres probably 100's of these trades go on off eBay every day without hitch.so i guess it happens
i used to deal in modified xbox's,not chipped but actual cosmetic modifications
often folks would pay me via bank trasfer/cheque off eBay and we are talking £00's at a time and obviously they all got their items
however i could just as easily not sent anything!0 -

I am definitely not going to use Bank Transfer again, even on eBay. But you are right it's just another level of protection gone. I guess when you buy things from eBay 'properly' you have eBay's protection, Paypal's protection and then if needs be Royal Mail's protection (or insurance).
I guess it's lucky I don't do photography at University or use a camera to make money, since I sold my old DSLR to fund this one!0 -
