Please do not waste police time, this is a civil not a criminal matter.
If there is someone duping people out of £500 a time and doing it a lot, I'm sure the police would want to know..0 -
Not if the seller has fraudulently obtained money by deception, that is a criminal offence. If its a matter of a lost item then it is a civil matter.

I have just noticed as well that he was using stock imagery from Google images and not an image of the actual item. So unless he has a receipt of the camera when he bought it, I guess he can't even prove that he owned it in the first place?
So far... Nothing is being held at the sorting office, I am going to talk to my bank just in case and I will have the forms for the Small Claims Court by the end of today.
I know talking to my bank is pointless, but then I can rule that out as an option.
The Police is my last resort but now that I have a way of getting his address it's still a possibility.0 -
this couldnt scream scam much more loudly TBH0

I found a good website which you enter a sort code and it tells you everything about that person
Really?
Do you honestly mean that a mere sort code can tell you anything more than which holding bank it is, even if you mean bank account I would consider that unlikely.
Sorry, but suddenly my radar is thinking this might be a wind up, the most obvious scam known to man..and now a website that apparently can tell you all about a person merely from their sort code?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. My sort code is Manchester, I've never even been there and I'm a soft Southerner.

I had a similar experience on ebay, albeit trading within the system. I bought a moderately priced oil painting and after 3 weeks of non-receipt, I contacted the seller who had no receipt of postage.
In the end I called him up and the chap assured me in a very posh and authorative manner that he had posted it...which left me puzzled.
Anyway 2 months later I went down to the sorting office to pick up another parcel - whhile I was waiting I noticed a painting shaped parcel lying against a wall in the corner - and sure enought it was my painting - the postie could only comment "oh yeah, thats been there for ages"!!!
So you never know!0 -

In your case though assuming you paid by paypal you were fully covered and would have been able to get a full refund from paypal.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. RadicalRooster wrote: »I thought if this was a scam though, when he had my money he would run and delete all his accounts etc. But he still communicates. I mention how I can't afford to loose £500 and he said he can't afford to loose £500 either (which confused me as I am the one who has lost money not him!).
So I don't see why he is still replying after he has taken my money?!
he hasnt deleted anything because the sale wasnt completed through ebay. ebay wont chase him, paypal wont chase him - because its nothing to do with them. as far as your bank are concerned, if you state fraud they will ask if you believe someone else has been using your account, as fraud is when somebody else is accessing and using your account. you sent the transaction, so it isnt fraud.
in effect, agreeing payment is agreeing to their terms of postage via private sale too - so even in claims court the buyer could still say it was sent, and even that u received it, as theres no evidence either way.
its a lot of money, and hopefully u will get the camera or the cash back, but i think this is one of those lessons which has to be learnt!A good friend can tell you what is the matter with you in a minute ...:A0
