I bought a pack of 3 handwash soap dispensers a couple of years ago which make the soap into foam. I used some antibacterial fairy liquid to try them out, and two years later I'm still using the same bottle of washing up liquid! I must have saved a fortune on bottles of handwash.2025 Fashion on the ration

You remind me of the time I was in some supermarket and came across a man with a shopping list (obviously written by his wife) and a 12 year old shop assistant puzzling over the jars of tartare sauce and wondering why "the little woman" would want a condiment normally served with fish when everything else on the list was obviously for baking. I do believe I did a loud snort of derision before explaining to them what cream of tartar was. And that if it wasn't available she might manage if she had baking powder instead.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. I was lucky enough to get some reduced low fat beef mince a few months ago 5x500gm packs for 99P per pack and I have been using them up over the months This morning after defrosting a 500 gm pack, adding some frozen carrots diced onions from the freezer also prepped a couple of months ago to save wasting them, plus a handful of oats and lentils I also had a bag of frozen mushroom stalks in the freezer as when I prep my mushrooms I always save the stalks in a small bag .Chucked them into the saucepan as well along with some bisto gravy made from the powder as I'm not keen on granules and a crumbled up Oxo cube I have turned 99p worth of mince into five single portions of shepards pie I topped with mash made from spuds that were just begining to sprout and some grated cheese . Five decent sized portions cooling on the marble kichen slab once cold will go back into the freezer for five ready meals to use over the next few weeks I used those lidded take away rectangular boxes and each portion will give me a instant hot ready cooked meal reheated in the microwave just adding some green steaamed veg if wanted. I worked out the costings and each meal comes to around 75p and that includes the steamed veg So I'm feeling pretty pleased at my morning batch cooking a lot nicer than from a supermarket and home cooked as well. Batch cooking really does save you money. I have one more block of minced beef left in the freezer and next wekk will probably do a batch of 5 chilli's to portion up and freeze.
Every little helps I bought the mince just after Christmas, when everyone was buying turkeys , hence why it was reduced and froze each block as soon as I got home.

Well done, JackieO! My kind of gal 😁
That's what I missed during lockdown, no option to buy yellow stickers in the online orders. 😏2025 Fashion on the ration

I was lucky enough to buy a Lidl £1.50 veg box today containing mushrooms which have been made into soup. Courgette, onions, celery, pepper have been used in pasta bake. Sprouts and carrots will do for Sunday lunch and the apple and bananas for snacks.

I made a good two litres of thick leek and tattie soup today.its cooled down and potted up in the fridge now and will do me for around five lunch times or starters for dinner over the next five days 69p, 4 leeks from Aldi's.
Three starting to sprout spuds, all sliced and diced with two basic veggie stock cubes thrown in and a teaspoon of cumin and a good teaspoon of garlic pepper.
Very pleased and have costed it out at just under a pound for five decent portions. I also had a two pint rice pud cooking in my slow cooker made with 4 ozs pudding rice 4 ounces caster sugar (from my jar of blended granulated sugar0 and two pints of milk a large tin of evaporated milk one and half tins of water and topped up with ordinary milk to the two pint level. This will give me a good few portions for pudding over the next few days at a cost of around 25p a portionI'm on a roll this week Using up odds and ends and staying well clear of the supermarkets

I got given one of those portable smoothie/juicer makers. Game changer. I must admit, I do pay a lot a month for fruit BUT despite that I can make a smoothie everyday and I guarantee it's cheaper than buying in a cafe. I also freeze the bits of fruit (within reason) that can't go in the smoothie maker/smoothie/juice, like say the orange peal. In the mornings I pop that in my glass water to cool and give it flavour. Today I had that end bit of the pineapple chopped it up and froze it and some times I freeze apple and pear cores with a little flesh on them. I will think of more ideas to share.9
