Primrose said:Today's news on Ukraine will undoubtedly mean that efforts to save pennies will be overwhelmed by massive increases in the price of oil, gas and petrol.
I would expect that most of us will start to feel the impact immediately. These increased costs will doubtless rapidly be reflected in the price of every item we have to buy in the shopsI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. If you are working from home and like to listen to the radio then play it through your laptop, instead of having the radio on separately.
If you listen for 8 hours days, 231 days a year, this will save you a grand total of £4.66 a year (roughly - a DAB radio uses approx 9w an hour, and an electricity kwh will be about 28p in April).
Live the good life where you have been planted.

Dont know if this has been mentioned before (so apologies if it has).
If you are getting a train or bus somewhere take your phone charger with you.
Some trains and buses have charging points on so you can top up for free as part of your fare.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)8 -

When something is newly opened, I'll write the date it was opened on the packaging. Next time we open "one of those", I'll work out how long the last packet lasted and write that on the packaging, too. (After a few times, I'll just record the longest time it lasted.) If it's something that gets decanted, e.g. flour, I'll write this information onto a label and stick that to the lid of the storage container.
This is really useful when deciding whether I actually need to buy XX this month or whether I have the wriggle room to wait for an offer. For example, I wash my hair every day*. I know a 400ml bottle of shampoo lasts me 4 months and costs 55p from L!dl. If they have an offer, I might buy 4 bottles for, say, 40p each, which will last me over a year and give me enough wriggle room to wait for the next offer to come along before I need to restock.

* It's curly. You can't brush curly hair and not have it frizz. The only way to have a comfortable scalp and manageable curls is to wash it daily."Be the type of woman that when you get out of bed in the morning, the devil says 'Oh crap. She's up.'
It ain’t what you do, it’s the way that you do it - that’s what gets results!

I have curly hair, and I just spritz it with water from one of these plant spritzers and then comb it with a widetoothed comb. I only wash my hair every 4th day, but then I do use conditioner after shampooing, and a defritzer* on towel dry hair.*Edit: that should be 'anti-frizz'...Are you wombling, too, in '22? € 58,96 = £ 52.09Wombling in Restrictive Times (2021) € 2.138,82 = £ 1,813.15Wombabeluba 2020! € 453,22 = £ 403.842019's wi-wa-wombles € 2.244,20 = £ 1,909.46Wombling to wealth 2018 € 972,97 = £ 879.54Still a womble 2017 #25 € 7.116,68 = £ 6,309.50Wombling Free 2016 #2 € 3.484,31 = £ 3,104.599

I have been using up as much surplus stuff as I can and only buying literally what's essential. its surprising what you can find tucked away and forgotten in the food cupboards.
I had a surplus bit of pastry made last October and frozen at the back of my freezer, I then found I had a out-of -date jar of Robertsons Mincemeat (very out of date December 2017 !) but I made a pie last week, and it was fine and no ill effects whatsoever.
I think I actually bought it in early January of 2017 as it was in the after Christmas sell off stuff, and it only cost me 50p anyway , and I had forgotten about it as it was on the top shelf at the back
But once I opened it and gave it a good sniff and it tasted Ok I thought well why notso a nice mincemeat pie with a good dollop of HM custard on top did four puddings last week, and a slice or two with a cuppa.
OK so its a Christmas thing to normally eat, but I figured as long as its eaten and not binned its been used up. I washed out the jar and gave it to a friend who makes her own jams so at some poit as I save the empty jam jars I will no doubt get a jar returned filled with soem HM jam or marmalade win-win
Foraging in my food cupboards and finding forgotten tins and giving them the sniff test is definitely saving some pennies here and there
