I, too, went straight for Dorothy L. Sayers!! Her fiction books are really hard to find here in Belgium, and her serious work is non-existent in the libraries. I'm a great fan!

basketcase said:. . . .NATIONAL TRUST MEMBERSHIP SAVINGThis was mentioned a while back, but wanted to bump it because it's approaching the holiday season, when people might be joining to cut the cost of visiting places.Try joining the National Trust for Scotland. It's cheaper than the NT (£63 v £72) and gets you in to English (Welsh, N Irish, Manx. NZ, Australian, Channel Island etc) places in the same way.7

We live in England but have Scottish NT membership. You do have to pay for any car parking at NT properties but it has only affected us once over several years.
Not heard about the first year being limited to Scotland; that certainly wasn't the case when we joined.5 -

Not heard about the first year being limited to Scotland; that certainly wasn't the case when we joined.I've not used it very often in England recently, so wouldn't know for sure. I've never paid parking before You didn't have to wait a year to use the NTS card outside Scotland either. I'm wondering how on earth they'd know...The NTS website says"With a National Trust for Scotland membership you have unlimited access to all the places in our care. You can also use your membership to explore places in the care of the National Trust in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, as well as other National Trust organisations around the world. Some restrictions do apply, so please check with the specific place before visiting to avoid disappointment."So it may be up to the individual property.Given that there's no such problem using the NT card in Scotland, it would still be money saving for me, because I wouldn't patronise the place!A budget is like a speed sign - a LIMIT not a TARGET!!
