Once the pressies have been opened on Christmas day you can reuse the paper that's too scrunched for rewrapping either to pack in around delicate items when sending stuff or to wrap around your Christmas decs when you come to put them away

What a lovely thread. My little contribution is: I use the thin tear off poly bags from the supermarket that you use to put your weighed produce in to overwrap my containers for the freezer. I write on the bag instead of the container so I no longer have to try and clean old maker pen off plastic containers - you also have plenty of room to put extra details (which if I'd followed my own advice I wouldn't have defrosted Pears instead of Apples - ah well made a different style of crumble!!)
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

Great idea! Much better than labels that either fall off in the freezer or won't clean off when washed! :T

When freezing items in plastic bags you can secure them by cutting some off the top of the bag and using it to tie round if you find that you don't have any suitable bag clips or ties to hand.

  • Any envelopes enclosed with bills or junk mail are easy to pull apart. Then re-fold inside out, re-stick and voila, a free blank envelope.
Healthy eating aim per day: 3 fruits, 3 or more vegetables, 3 low-fat dairy portions, 3 starch portions, 2-3 lean protein portions.
Weekly aim: to include 2 portions of fish (one oily), some nuts, seeds, beans and pulses.

Wow - fab threads! Heres my ideas - HTH x

When using jars of curry etc for quick easy tea's - always add extra onion, toms and grated carrot to help the meal go further - mushrooms and tinned pulses are fab too
Always use lids on pans (or plates if you dont have the lids anymore) to save energy and speed up cooking
Always use old envelopes for shooping lists
If your on a diet but still want a treat - freeze curly wurly's and break a bit off them every now and then.
Always swill tins and jars out with a little water and add it back to your cooking
To easily cut meat - use scissors
switch from chicken breasts and diced chicken to turkey meat! It may need a little bit longer cooking but is £££££££'s cheaper by far!
Always re-use kitchen cleaner bottles - make up with washing up liquid, vinegar and water - smells a bit pongy whilst doing it - but that goes pretty much straight away and its cheap and works!
Utilise the weater! Veg keeps really well when wrapped up outside in the garden.
After recenlty having weight loss surgery and losing 10 stone, ten becomming pregnant - charity shops, ebay and jumble sales are invaluable for clothes! I have genuinely not bought anything 'new' since my op in April 2009
The 'hardware' type stalls on markes seell things like washing up liquid - we bought a 2 litre fairy liquid bottle for £2 and its so far lastest about 3 months being watered down a little and added to a pump bottle
Join your local library!!! It makes a huge difference even if you buy your books second hand. In Manchester when you join the library you can use ANY in the whole of Manchester!
Best moisturiser in the world and Im a huge convert! When soaking wet after bath or shower - rub baby oil (cheapo version) all over and shove a towel on - must be soaking wet, it dries in and leaves my skin so soft - moisturiser has pretty much become obsolete for me now ;)

Cant think of any more - but I love this thread and the previous ones ;)
Loan finished Sep 2010 - HSBC CC - WAS £750 now £0! Natwest CC - WAS £1600 now £100 - Overdraughts to be worked on! WILL be debt free by mid 2011!!!
£2000 Saved so far for maternity leave - Our baby girl arrived valentines day! Elsie Ann - WELCOME

  • i might have posted this before sorry

instead of using a bath towel i use a hand towel when i have a shower (it sounds obvious when i write it but i'd never thought of it before and it lessens the laundry slightly)

To cut down on the amount of salt in our meals I only use half a stock cube when I do use them. The other half I rewrap and use the next time round

Instead of buying firelighters for starting coal/open fires, stuff the inner from a toilet roll with bits of junk mail and newspaper

Also for firelighters: dry the peel of citrus fruits (but if you eat organic ones use the peels for candied peel instead!), and use it as firelighters, they burn beautifully and also give a wonderful smell to the fire.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
