Thanks for the washing up liquid tips. I'm off to try them now. I've given up buying Fairy as my Dad tends to stick vast amounts of WUL in at a time, Hubby is better but still a bit prone to overusing and we're going through loads of the stuff.

    Shhhhhhh ;):D

As well as diluting the WUL, put it in a hand wash pump. It look neater in the kitchen and tends to restrict how much is used. I just put the sponge under the nozzle and use one squirt at a time. You get loads of bubbles that way.

my parents tend to have a takeaway day once a week, so i ask them to keep the plastic tubs for me.

i give them a wash in the dish washer and there i have free tubs for storage, mainly for freezing batch made food! :)

Cool; I decant the hair conditioner into an old fabric conditioner bottle and add some warm water to make it a bit thinner (otherwise it can be too gloopy to put into your machine). I love all this decanting, it makes me feel like a chemist! When it is about the same consistency as normal fabric conditioner, I just use the same amount as I normally would, all the while gleefully laughing.

Thank you darlin! Good idea for when I rin out. Im currently usinf soda crystals and lavender oil but babies clothes will be washed in non bio and fab cond :D

I LOVE this thread!! So many useful tips!!

For worktops, I use a capful of cheap antiseptic disinfectant in hot water. Does a brilliant job on the hob.

With regards to the hair conditioner, it makes a great shaving foam substitute for legs and underarms :D

I've always used just plain soap for this job, working up a good lather with one hand and the razor in the other (that sounds quite rude somehow, sorry). This doesn't suit everyone though, my youngest daughter gets razor rash with this method, but very cheap and worth a try if it works for you.

I'm loving these tips. Here are a few of mine, they might have already been mentioned as I've skim read.

I clean the bathroom with the cheapest shampoo I can get my hands on - it also goes in the washing machine when I have run out of powder.

I sometimes buy a shampoo that just doesn't agree with my hair but has lots of conditioning oils in - this goes into the handwash (surprisingly gentle on skin). I have also bought dirt cheap shampoo and add some olive oil to make it into hand wash softer on my hands.

When a shampoo bottle is used up it is kept for a cleaning day when I fill it with water and give it a gentle shake. Loads of suds for a wipe round.

Conditioner that doesn't agree with my hair - I add a glob of olive oil to it and use it as a prepoo treatment (could do this with cheapy stuff too)

I bulk out washing powder with soda crystals gets the clothes really clean an and is dirt cheap

I keep old worn out duvet covers to make dens in the garden (for my LO's)

All fabric and old cloths are kept - ~Eventually I will find a use, rags, cleaning cloths, dusters. If you are a sew'er you can make little purses, dolls clothes. Am toying with the idea of rag rugging.

Its already been said but I too use old tights for hair bands - they are very gentle on long hair, no snagging - you can get a load from one pair so are never searching for one.

I have used old bricks that were left over from building work (offered on freecycle a lot) and left over planks of wood or lamenate floor to make shelving for shed and garage.

Not for everyone, but I wash out emulsion buckets and use them for storage in the garage and shed, I have 3 B&Q buckets which are rectangular with a metal handle and easy fasten lid which I use for cleaning purposes.

Thats all I can think of for now - sorry if I've repeated any.:)

Thank you to everyone for the tips! Will have a think if I can come up with any.

flippin36, am I being dim (or warped), but what is a prepoo treatment? :o

Oh prepoo is just a deep treatment that needs washing out. A bit like hot oil. I pile it on wet hair (though some do it on dry) put a bag on my head - clip it, then a towel to keep the warmth in and leave for as long as I can be bothered. Makes hair soft.
