  • I noticed that the reed air freshener sat in the bathroom (bought when 1/2 price as would not pay full price for it!) was getting low. I topped it up with tap water and now have a few more weeks scent from it! I was worried that the water oil thing wouldn,t work but it's worked a treat!:D

I love reading this thread, though I haven't even got through the original one.I've picked up so many great tips.

Here are some of mine that I'd like to share:

When I have a shower,I turn the water on only to wet body/ hair and rinse.Inbetween it's turned off.I don't understand how people can let all that hot water go down the drain-such a waste. After my shower, when I rinse the flannel /sluice down the shower,I use cold water.

I re-use dental floss a few times, until it gets too stringy!

I use cloth hankies instead of paper ones.

I avoid using kitchen roll if I can.If I do use some, say to clean the cat's dishes,I cut it into quarters,as you don't need that much. That way it lasts longer.

I keep cut up lemons in the freezer, handy to drop a quarter in a glass or jug of water.I also always take off the zest and keep it in a small container in the freezer to use when baking etc.

When decanting dry items do so over a lid or a tray so that you don't waste the bit you'll inevitably spill.
When opening a packet eg tea once empty open the other end just to get that last few bits out that get trapped in between the folds of the paper.
There used to be a much older thread packed full of ideas of more extreme moneysaving ideas- something like Old Style Things only you would do. Have tried the search to find it but couldn't trace it [started by Sarahsaver I think] so haven't posted a link. Perhaps some kind person would be able to do that for me pretty please:D

A couple of months ago we joined the gym and now we rarely shower at home. When the gas and water bills arrive it shall be interesting to see how much money we have saved. I know joining the gym isn't money saving but it's something that we really value.

I just thought about another one. Check if your employer offer discounted bus passes. I now buy my monthly bus pass at work and save nearly £5 every month and I could save even more if I bought quarterly or yearly bus passes.

I have been thinking I have lots of bath stuff around and it hit me why. I hardly ever have a bath as I go to the pool 3 times a week and usually shower when at home.
I do spend more on shampoo specially to get rid of chlorine tho but often use the shower gel at the pool.
  • Friend of mine grew her potatoes in the buckets that supermarkets put all thier bunches of flowers in. Morrisons sometimes sell them off in groups of ten taped together for a pound. The containers are not huge in size but my friend is happy enough with the results.

Those containers also make good waste paper bins!
