A home decoration tip. Look out for sales at accessory type shops for earrings and necklaces, they make good curtain tie-backs and certainly a darn sight cheaper. With the earrings - the bigger the better - just take off the through-the-ear-part - there is usually a hole or a loop left - and thread ribbon or cord etc through and tie it at the back. Voila!

I shower first thing in morning before the night rate electricity goes off.

My hand-held dust buster is on a timer so it charges up for a couple of hours over night on night rate electricity. It's always charged up but not on permanent charge.
There is no issue so small that it can't be blown out of proportion

Don't ring 0845, 0870 etc numbers, look up the company you want to call on www (dot) saynoto0870 (dot) com to find a direct landline number instead. If they are not listed, look on their website for a number to reach them from outside the UK and knock off the +44. Revenue sharing number dont work outside the UK so they have to list a landline instead, if they dont have it on their website, try emailing them and ask for a number to call them from outside UK.

You can then call using the free minutes on your mobile (of which most of us on contract have more than we need) instead of paying extra to use their revenue sharing numbers which aren't covered by the vast majority of free minutes contracts.

Save old cups when the handles crack. We currently have a pencil pot (bone china with a picture of plums) and a dry rice measurer (roses, with a gold rim) made of old cups.

I made an orange drizzle cake at the weekend....having zested and juiced the orange OH then suggested that I could have also added the flesh to the cake for more flavour. This time it was composted but I know for next time:D

You can use the inner plastic bands that come inside rolls of sellotape etc to make bracelets. Wrap and secure a length of fabric around them and then embellish with beads etc

I made 3doz scones from sour milk I had. When cooling, crumbs fell off them and some of the scones crumbles. I put the crumbs into the marge box before washing it and swished the crumbs round to get off as much fat as I could. I then made a crumble with the usual topping and the added the scone crumbs near the end of cooking. It resulted in a crisp top. In future, I shall save and freeze any crumbs that fall off baking to use as crumble topping. (Saves me eating them too!)

I couldn't see this posted elsewhere...I was washing up a very deep, plastic fruit bowl, this sort of shape \_/ prior to car booting it when, in a lightbulb  moment, realised I could use it as a small washing up bowl. It's the perfect size/shape for saving water...tipped it into the regular washing up bowl to see how much it holds and it was only about a third. It only needs a tiny squirt of wu liquid and saves quite a few litres of hot water, and it's lilac so matches my kitchen :D

I do that if washing up after baking. Use the mixing bowl as a washing up bowl to wash everything else.

When buying cotton wool opt for pleated cotton wool as this is usually cheaper than the balls and you get a lot more in the bag. It's also sometimes cheaper to buy the pleated version from the baby section in shops, rather than the cosmetics section.

If you do buy cotton wool balls tear each one in half. I find that doing this not only makes it last twice as long, but when putting skin toner onto the wool you are able to put more of it on your face as it's not all soaked up into the fibres.
