Really impressed with your ideas...just wish to pick your brains on a few of them.
Is the OWL gadget really good / accurate / worth the cost to buy it?
Where can you get smaller or one-cup kettles?
Where is the best place to find gas / eletricity tariffs? £76.00 DD for both your gas and eletricity is amazing!:T
Thanks in advance.
Personally I use a flask and boil my water once a day and then have the flask to top up my cuppas through out the day. I am at home all day and my electricity is low even with two computers on all day. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
When toast is made - leave in an upside down v for a few minutes to cool.
The spread will not sink in so much and you will use less.
Get the washing machine on early or the night before to hang on the line.
Having the washing out on the line at 8/9am gives it longer to dry on overcast cool days.
I wash empty cereal bags sometimes - brilliant for transporting food.
Last one, I gave a fruit cake to someone just out of hospital.
I find the disposable bags good for picnics. Transporting flans for sc holidays.
Gosh! I could write my own penny pinching book. May be earn some cash?
OK. Next penny pinch of the day.
Computer inks= Just splashed out! yep! opened the safe (purse)
When you switch from original ink to re manufactured you can save a small fortune
Just bought x2 HP colour 343 colour remanufactured ink cartridges from AmazinkDirect as they have an offer on. I have a 3 in 1 printer.
Paid £21.98 for 2 colour cartridges. Got an extra £9.42 off using a coupon code = 1/3rd off.
Free delivery on over £20 spend. This week all orders 1st class postage.
Spend under £20 and you can pay 2nd class postage and be upgraded to 1st class post.
Want the code = PM me as i think posting it is not allowed.
Now tell me where I can buy ink cheaper?
If the water looks mucky consider it a job well done!
Save the penny's and be your own cleaner.
I do a little every day. Just used washing up liquid and value disinfectant. Micro fibre cloth and washed around kitchen cupboards, kick boards at the base, around the doorways.
NO! I did not use star drops as I have not got any. Looked in Iceland and Tesco. I think Wilkinson's will have it. Have to wait till I need more shopping to visit the store. The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -

Our local library had a couple of OWL gadgets for anyone to borrow. Not sure if all libraries do.Howwwwwww Much????0 -
I don't know if this has been said before as the thread is so long
If you're on a water meter, use the washing up water to flush the loo. I go by the saying "if it's yellow, let it mellow" but I do live on my own.
When running the hot tap, pour the first cold water into an empty (clean) milk carton, to use the water for the kettle, pet's water bowl or for cooking. My water takes quite a while to heat up, so I don't want to waste 6 pints.
If reheating a plate of food in the microwave, cover it in clingfilm. Reduces cooking time and you avoid splatters of sauce etc in the microwave itself.0 -
Instead of using cling film to prevent splattering when using the microwave I use an upturned plate, one less product to buy.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent
79.5 coupons rolled over 4/75.5 coupons spent - using for secondhand purchases

I do the same thing, even though bills are included in my rent (I love living here, so I'm trying to be a really good tenant). I learnt the saying from the film Meet The Fockers, where Barbara Streisand and Dustin Hoffman's toilet is "on the fritz" - "if it's yellow, let it mellow; if it's brown, flush it down".June 2014 Grocery Challenge: £0/£50

We have microwave plastic lids to use in the microwave to stop the splashing.Had them for years and washable.
I did my grocery shopping yesterday( for the week). Tesco. Still branding down.
I was going to buy Crisp and Dry 1L cooking oil, then noticed Tesco's own 1L cooking oil 50p cheaper.
I looked for a ladies magazine I use to like. WOW £2.99! It can stay on the shelf.I will continue with the Free magazines you can pick up and my free ebooks for my kindle.
Bought some more items for home cooking - I get through a lot =
Plain value flour 45p. Large tub of Stork £2.
Large dark brown sugar for fruit cakes £2.49. Family voted on this. We had a chat while eating a cake and the dark brown sugar was said to look and taste better than white.
Anyone noticed the packets of cooking bacon @ 81p
Husband is jumping up and down at this. Tesco's have just started selling these bacon off cuts again.
We have had bacon and egg etc...
Egg and bacon quiche.
HM cooked pizza with the bacon as a topping.
YS x5 loafs. x3 are now in freezer @ 8p each.
YS x2 boxes of Raspberry turnovers @ 10p each box.
Shame there was no fruit and veg YS. So I shall use what I have.
Bought lots of other groceries. No vouchers to use this time.
Total bill £34.19.The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
Rather than drain away the washing up water rapidly I leave it in the sink so if I use any utensil I can leave it soaking in the sink till next time. Then when I do wash up next time nothing is dried in. It makes washing up easier. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

Putting a spray gun top on the washing up bottle is helping save my pennies. Less liquid is used and still cleans the dishes.
After using Fairy for years I have now branded down to one that is half the price. I looked on the back of both bottles and the top ingredients read the same. The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0
