Just had another thought, if there's no leak.

Do you use a sprinkler a lot? They use tons of water. Or even using a hose if you leave it on for long periods. If you're in East Anglia, that's the driest area of the U.K. so if you have a veg patch or water a lawn a lot, that could do it.

Do you wash cars with a pressure washer? Or have a hot tub? Or use jacuzzi baths a lot? Even ordinary baths, if used every day (and deep), can use a lot of water.

All these things can bump up your bill.

    Recipe please :)

I don't really have a recipe, I make it up as I go along but here's what you need:

    Any vegetables that you like
    I use: 1 red onion
    a packet of button mushrooms
    a packet of baby corn
2 peppers, one red and one yellow
    1 can of mixed beans
1 small can of tomato puree
    1 can of tomatos chopped
and any spices that you like, I use spicy herbs, chili powder, garlic and paprika

All you have to do is chop up the veg (I leave the mushrooms whole)

Get a big pan, fry the onions and the peppers with the spices and a little oil

Add in the rest of the veg and give it a good stir,

Put in the tomato puree and beans with a little water and seasoning with salt and pepper

Put in the can of tomatoes, and stick the lid on it and let it simmer on low for about 30 mins or until the veg is soft.

You can also add rice to the mix to thicken it up, if I can get the uncle bens packet rice on offer I will, otherwise I have it with crackers :)

It's really tasty and so easy to make :D keeps for a few days in the fridge too :) :j

I have 2 water butts in the garden that hold 330+ litres and always use that for the watering of the garden (I am very strict on that and no one in the house uses tap water to water them) showers for all 4 of us probably total about 30 mins a day so I can only assume that is where the water is going. I even have the water reducing devices in my toilet cisterns!

    Gardening saving the pennies

Just been on the patio planting some sweet pea's (grown from seed) .
Tied them to the canes using some wool.

14 tomato plants in the conservatory, all at different stages of growth.
Some have flowers on now wile others are 2 inches.
First year of successfully growing from seed.
We started planting the seed in January.
I see the shops are selling 2inch tomato plants for £1 each..

Should I say again? most seedlings are in marg, ice cream recycled tubs.
The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)

£55 a month on your water meter!!??

When I had a meter I managed to keep the bill to under £12 a month for 8 years.
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.

I am going to need to wait until DH gets home as I can't get the cover off but spoke to Anglian Water and they said we used 174 cubic meters last year

Silly question, is there more than you and OH at home? I know SS in our house, his idea of a 'quick' shower is around 25 mins! We usually have to tell him to hurry up. Timers don't work with him.

If its not a leak, or others in the house, is it possible you're getting charged for someone else's water use as well?

Wow! This is brilliant. It reminds me of the Imperial Leather soap bar. As a child I used to put it stamp side up, until my grandma told me, that the stamp side goes down, so it doesn't get wet.:T:T:T

I never knew that! Going to scurry upstairs and turn them upside down!

Sorry everyone, not sure how to do multiple quotes......

Yes, checked the bill and it's definitely £55 a month, I have often wondered why it is so much but just thought it was about the 'right' price for a family of 4 people.

I'm not on a meter and our direct debit is £35 a month for 6 months and the other 6 months we don't pay, I think it's between April-October we don't pay for?

£55 a month is expensive. I'd go to direct debit n not have a meter in this case.
