I've just checked my meter to make sure the readings they've got is right and apparently I've used 6 cubic metres of water in 9 days!! I've only used the washing machine once during that time and we've run around 10 baths during that time and about 6 showers.

According to my bill 1 cubic metre is equal to 12 baths, but meter is saying I've used the equivalent of 72 baths in 9 days!!

I'm also with essex and Suffolk. Essex and Suffolk estimated that two people use 130m3 of water per year. Which costs 362 pounds.

But on the 1st month we used 3m3 and month 2m3. So at this rate there is no chance of using 130.

Do you have an online account. As there is the option of downloads of these bills.

I am paying 25 pound a month as whilst they can see we are a low user they want to leave it a while longer.

We are using so little water as we are using the gizmo for shower plus timer. We also use the mellow yellow philosophy. We also have a dual flush for necessary flushing.

Water bills are very confusing. Will report back in June when I get my bill.

  • I am glad I'm not the only one confused by my water bill :o

I get my new one in September so still time to reduce the amount we are using, our shower is difficult to turn off and on again as it comes through freezing cold for a couple of minutes but the girls shower can be switched on and off with no ill effects so will suggest they do that whilst in there.

I use a large plastic trug I bought in aldis to stand in for my shower, this water is then used for flushing the loo or watering plants. It's only me here in Cornwall and my dd pm is £25 . And I am in credit. So hope to lower it again in the next quarter.

I actually rang my water company a few weeks ago as I think we are paying a lot (£40.50) a month and they came and read the meter as the companies only read the meters once a year and estimate the others and they agreed we were paying too much and reduced it to £37 which I still think is a lot as there are only me and my husband here. They suggested that before we go to bed we read the meter and then when we get up we reread the meter as obviously no water should be used overnight. If the meter changes we have a leak somewhere. So tonight I'm going to read the meter and see.

    Gardening saving the pennies

Just been on the patio planting some sweet pea's (grown from seed) .
Tied them to the canes using some wool.

14 tomato plants in the conservatory, all at different stages of growth.
Some have flowers on now wile others are 2 inches.
First year of successfully growing from seed.
We started planting the seed in January.
I see the shops are selling 2inch tomato plants for £1 each..

Should I say again? most seedlings are in marg, ice cream recycled tubs.

It's easy to grow cherry tomatoes from seeds and I grow mine in hanging baskets. People find it fascinating when they walk past.
