I have often had to clean my jeans in the car with a wet wipe. Sometimes just because I've been a messy eater.
or dropped chocolate on my leg and not noticed until it's melted.

Here are a few tips that I stick to:
If you use regular soap in the shower, stick some rubber bands around the soap dish so the soap doesn't actually rest on the soap dish - this helps it dry out a lot quicker and stops it from disintegrating and being washed away by the water.
Keep empty plastic tubs etc in the refrigerator - fridges work more efficiently when they are full, so this helps save electricity.
Vacuum bags can be reused by unrolling (or cutting off) the glued end. Once you've emptied the bag you can close it either with duct tape, pegs/clips or by stapling it.
If you shop at Tesco, keep an eye on your clubcard account. For some reason it takes ages for me to receive my coupons (sometimes I think I don't receive them at all), but by checking online you can see which coupons are still valid and print them out, so you can take advantage of short-term offers.
Regarding bread, I have started baking this myself after a friend gave me a great recipe for bread that only needs to rise for 30-45 minutes. One loaf works out as 26p and I usually make two per week, although sometimes I make bread rolls out of the same recipe instead.
I wash my clothes with Dr Bronner's soap - one tablespoon is enough, but after reading this thread I will swap to wash balls, which will work out even cheaper and even better for the environment. Thanks for the tip!!
I use tomato puree instead of buying expensive tomato sauces. I find 1-1.5 tablespoons are usually enough. However, Tesco has just increased the price of their value tomato puree from 35p to 40p - that's an increase of over 14%!
I don't have a TV but watch all my favourite TV shows online, mostly on BBC iPlayer (I don't watch soaps or reality shows so I rarely find anything interesting on the other channels). I have now also started watching Clubcard TV, which was recommended by someone earlier in this thread - free TV series and movies for everyone with a Tesco Clubcard, it is absolutely brilliant and it utterly baffles me why they keep so quiet about it!
That's all I can think of for now! I have read pages 51-74 of this thread and found SO many brilliant ways to save, so now I will start on page 1 and slowly work my way up to page 50! Thank you everyone for sharing your best moneysaving tips!June 2014 Grocery Challenge: £0/£50

Errrm - what do the stars mean (no I don't mean horrrorscopes!)Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

Miss Bea - I loved the tip for emptying your vacuum cleaner bag. To think I once spent a very dusty half hour painstakingly emptying mine over the dusbin (because it was the last one I had and I didn't have another one conveniently in stock) pulling the dust out with the pair of kitchen tongs I use for turning sausages under the grill0

Always safe the mesh bags that fruit comes in such as satsumas etc. Very very useful can be used for
1) a potato scrub for jacket potatoes.
2) A non stick brillo pad effect on cookers (just scrunch up and make sure the small metal bit is not scraping)
3) A scourer for your dishes.
Trust me I always keep them and then chuck once usedNo Matter what you do there will be critics.0 -
Lately, I have found marg/ice cream tubs very useful.
Husband and I planted our seeds in them.
Now the tomato plants have been potted into large pots I have put a marg. tub over x2 sticks/plant cane.
I have almost finished knitting a ladies cardigan. The set of x5 clear buttons I saved from an old duvet cover. The duvet cover is slowly being cut up for small sewing projects. The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -

On a similar note, if you are running down your freezer and have a lot of space, fill it with either boxes as above, or if no boxes, I use carrier bags filled with scrunched up newspaper.

Free plastic trouser coathangers =
For years I have hung a bath mat on one to dry. I hang the coathanger from the shower rail.
I peg a recipy book to one when needed, hang from the kitchen cupboard. The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
