Morning.
Alcohol Free day yesterday for me. more importantly, I got to sleep at around 1am WITHOUT sleeping pills(another problem I've had intermittently).
Instead of staying up til silly o'clock with the tv on to distract me from worrying about things, I stuck on Kraftwerk's first ever album on the record player(It's an amazingly relaxing record should you wish to give it a listen) and read a couple of funny Dave Eggers short stories, then the record finished, I switched off the light and off to the land of nod I went right up until 7:30am with no interruptions. Best night's sleep I've had in ages.
Sim, 'uber'well done for the two weeks and your volunterring. Luther was really good, Idris Elba carries the show, such a great actor.
As for The Wire, I envy you for not having seen it. go out and find the boxset from someone as soon as you can, it is without a doubt the best television series I have ever seen.
Incidentally, I watched the last ever episode last night and when it ended, I went out to the garden for a cigarette and a think about how brilliant the series is. Then next door's cat popped into the garden and jumped up on my lap, I notcied it had a collar on it so I had a look and found out the cat's name, it's 'Bubbles', which is the same name as one of the main characters in The Wire.

spooky!
Hiya Paolo, and Good Aternoon all.
Congrats for keeping sober Paolo :j
Great news, you having a good nights sleep too. I can relate to what you say about the pills..
I have to take a beta blocker, just to relax enough to unwind! I only take the as and when though.
I couldn't nod off until about 6am todaySo, went back to sleep, and woke up about an hour ago, so I feel a *bit rough around the edges* but OK
What you say about staying up late, I can understand. It is difficult, isn't it, getting your body clock back in shape after you've got into the bad habit of staying up all night!
Will be off to bed about 11pm tonight, and am aiming to get up at 7am tomorrow morning, as I did last Thursday night / Friday morning / Friday night / Saturday morning..things just went awry from Saturday night..
If truth be told, I'm quite jealous of you having a record player (in a good way).
A cliche, but true nonetheless, that there is something about holding a record, and the lovely warm 'real' sound of playing vinyl isn't there. You said in an earlier post I think, that you had bought it from a charity shop. Result! What system is it? I've got an old Technics stack system, but currently no speakers..not very handy :rotfl:
My shopping list at the moment, is a mountain bike, to get me out and about (used to love mountain biking, but it fell by the wayside, when I hit the booze big style about 15 years ago) - This I'll be buying with the £140 which is sat in my PayPal account (frozen) until my Ebay seller gets his jacket from Canadian Customs, where it's been since last Friday..I'm a bit stressed about this, but have been emailing him regularly.
Summer clothes..no dosh, so charity shop here I come!
Oh food would be good too, as I have no money until Friday
Next comes a desk, glass, chrome, something minimal for my bachelor pad, for my iMac, which is on my little dining table at the moment. My sh*ggable Mac needs pride of place. Sad, I knowNot a Mac Fanboi at all, oh no.
Lastly, the record player, and some half decent speakers. I found out a couple of weeks back, that my neighbour had just given away a pair of Mission speakers gratis. He said he would've given me them had he know. Gutted!
Oh, and I'm about £10K of £24K in debt (depending on whether or not you include the Student Loans Debt).
Nothing like getting your priorities right eh? :A
Paolo, regarding Luther, you're spot on. Idris Alba is a cracking Actor Love him. My Girlfriend texted me last night, after I was waxing lyrical about him.. "I knew you'd have a man - crush on Idris Alba!" Cheeky mare
Must see The Wire. My other half has said, she'll try and borrow the box set from her colleague at work, so fingers crossed
Regarding your cat incident, VERY spooky!
I'm off downstairs, to take an Electric meter reading, so I can call NPower, and get an up to date bill, which they *still* haven't sent me, after having a chat with them last Saturday.
It felt good, to bite the bullet, and deal with my NPower debt ( £735). The guy in billing, said that my account was 'on hold' and that now I'd told them I'm seeing the CAB next week to sort my debts, there will be no further action.
My Housing Association have just sent me a newsletter, and there is an article in there about 'Social Tariffs', so I'm going to try and get on NPower's 'Staying Warm' basic tariff.
Does anyone on here know, if this will be cheaper than their 'Economy 7' Electric (only Elec / no Gas) tariff? I'm assuming it would be.
Going to leave mine, and go down the homeless drop in centre, to do my voluntary work at 2.30. I thought it was odd, that the Manager had asked me to go in so late, considering the close at 5! Ah well, I'm trying to put my nerves to one side, and look at the positive of having something to focus on.
All the best to you all,
Sim x0 -
Btw - A quick question -
I've had a cheque through the post.
It's handwritten.
They've got my name correct. They've written £3.50 in the 'figures' box, but 'Three Pounds Only' in the 'amount in words' line.
I take it that this cheque is null and void?!
Cheers,

I'd ask at your local branch if I were you, Sim. Either they'll accept it, or they won't.Neigh, neigh, and thrice neigh

Afternoon all, hope you are all well.
Just realised its Wednesday already and half way to the weekend, which is cool. On my day off the main job today, and half way through my running around to meetings and appointments so I'm going to chill out for an hour before I start again.
Aiming for another AF day. I can't believe I've done a week without wine - I'm starting to feel quite differently about things and its done my confidence the world of good.
Hugs to anyone that needs them, Pen x
Sorry Sim, don't know about the cheque. This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0 -

No AFD's to report - I'm tired and stressy - I know the signs just need to be more diligent.
