    Afternoon all!

    Didn't stay AF last night afterall, oops, but then again, I only had 2 glasses of wine with dinner at a friend's house so nothing excessive.

    I picked up my new bike after work yesterday and instantly loved it. I rode it home, got changed into some more suitable clothing and headed out for a bike ride. I just couldn't stop pedalling, it was brilliant fun. I can already tell that I'm really going to enjoy this bike, I even went for an 8 mile ride first thing this morning.

    I've got the day off today and am going to London with my sister to see a gig and catch up with some old friends of mine. Both my sister and I could do with a break, I could because of the recent nonsense I've mentioned before but my sister really needs a break. She went to the doctor's last week because she'd been having um, 'women's things' for the last 10 days which is a bit much and they ran some blood tests which showed that her blood was too thin and she was severely lacking in vitamin B.

    I don't think I need to tell people here what that usually indicates and neither did my sister. The doctor asked her about her drinking and credit to my sister, she told him straight away that she was putting away a bottle of wine a day during the week and double that if not more at the weekend. add to that the stress she is getting from work and the fact that she is in the process of buying a house and it's clear that something was going to go wrong. The doctor obviously asked her to curb the drinking and referred her to a counsellor who she will meet next week.

    Over the last few months I've managed to cut my drinking considerably, I was just as bad as my sister, so I hope that I can help her too. I've tried in the past to get her to stay AF and managed to some extent but by her own admission, as soon as I'd go back to my house and she'd get home, there was always a bottle of wine in the fridge waiting for her and she could never resist the urge.

    I've told her that I am totally committed to really cutting down and that I want her to support me and in return I will support her cutting down. I'm sure it's easier if the two of us are both trying. I'm going to help her move into her new house and then we can have nice meals and watch the world cup there without the lure of drinking just because all our mates are there, like it happens when we go to the pub.

    My sister asked me if she should go cold turkey but I advised her to take one day at a time because she shouldn't put herself under unrealistic pressure.

    as someone said yesterday, most people manage one day without a drink but then the next day they'll have a 'reward' drink. while this may constitute a failure to some degree, I believe in some cases it is progress. From my own experience, I started with managing just the one AF day each week, but before long, the physical well-being, emotional stability and clarity of thought I got every time I had an AF day started to have effect and now I feel confident that 2 days in a row is entirely possible.

    I don't think either my sister or I will stop drinking completely, I don't believe either of us want to. I just want to get to a point where we can enjoy a drink as a treat every now and again, not as a necessity every day.

    Fingers crossed!

    I might even suggest my sister starts posting here, I've told her how good this thread is but she thinks it might be weird if our real lives were to be crossed with a virtual scenario such as this thread. I can sort of understand that. maybe I should just re-register with a different username like 'AuntyGladys' and post about embroidery classes, then she won't suspect it's me!

    anyway, must dash, got a train to catch. hope you all have a pleasant day.

    ciao!

    Afternoon all :)

    Had a nice nap....and was woken up halfway through by a text message from my stepdaughter. She NEVER texts me (and can usually barely be bothered to answer ones I send her...well she IS a teenager!:rotfl:). It was asking me if I could buy something from her avon catalogue as she is running one (mm...she's only 15!?). I said no.

    Then I've just had a message on FB from an Uncle who never keeps in touch asking if my brother has a house he can rent him and his new "lady" cheaply!!

    :mad:to families!!!:rotfl::rotfl:

    Now I've vented I'm off to get ready for work!
