The school that I work in has an outside crowd that comes in and does swimming lessons, my DD1 learnt to swim here about 12 yrs ago, she went for a couple of years twice a week and really enjoyed it. Was just talking to the site manager asking him who does the swimming now cos I want my little ones to come and he told me the previous couple were dead. The husband died in 2001 and the wife a year later, both from alcohol poisoning, they were prob both in their 50s :(

Thats quite sad.....50 is still so young. :(

Sim mate...1'm a 44 year old guy with no house/job/career/savings/pension....saving grace is i do have a lovely G/F & we rent a great house!

I've done all manner of daft things (not all drink related but sure it played a part!)...

Don't beat yourself up...its only a liquid (best way i look at it!)....you're doing voluntary work & do recognise you've an issue with the old booze...I once 5 years ago (during a real down patch!) raided the penny jar just for ONE bootle of white lightening cider (!)

    Keep smiling!

115k...whrn you see your psych 2morrow-maybe ask if their is a 24 hour crisis line/team-you may need to be referred to them by your psych/GP? I know again I'm probably stating the obvious (& apologies if I am) but as well as the omega 3/fish oils (I know I'm going on but does make a huge difference in MH cases)-excercise 3 times a week or more is GREAT! Now I know that's often the LAST thing you feel like doing (I know from when my g/f was recovering) it really really makes you feel better after about 15/20 minutes...you don't have to join a gym...force yourself to maybe jog 3 times a week (start with say 20 mins-1 min walk-1 min jog & work up to say 45 mins & increasing jogging time)....it does help! And again i really hope this does not sound patronising (you've probably had the same said to you maybe by the cpn?) but it DOES really help!

That is sensible advice.:A I try and get out to get some fresh air and exercise most days but sometimes even that seems too much like hard work. It's easier now the weather is getting better though. Well not today it p*ssed down here.:rotfl:I did sit down with them today and ask exactly what I am supposed to do if I have a crisis like that again and they explained it thoroughly which was good.

I did have the psychologist appointment today and when I arrived they said the mental health team had found me a slot with my psychiatrist just after my other appointment.:)

My psychiatrist changed my medication although I have to go and get it from the GP tomorrow.

My psychologist and I were discussing my issues and I am also starting a very scary 1 year long group therapy in less than 2 weeks time!

It is frightening but I think it will be good for me. I hope!:D

I hope everyone else is okay. Thanks for all the support, it really has been so helpful.:grouphug:

Hi 115! Glad it all went well! The Group Therapy thing is scary beforehand but you will look back & see how beneficial it was in the future! i know your MH issues are different to my G/F'S (she had psychosis) but she was very anti doing the 'talking bit' with a psychologist & also going to a local art group for people recovering from MH issues (her words were' i really don't feel up to talking to others & especially other ill people-it will remind me of the fact I've been ill') but it SO helped her recovery & in looking back she knows it helped her. Glad things are moving foreward for you!

It's very common to think 'That won't happen to me' , but unless I admit to myself that this is a very real possibility if I carry on drinking, then it easily could happen. No-one thinks they are going to die early through drinking, though many people do. Many people will not see grandchildren born because of not doing something about their drinking.
I don't want that to be me. It would be selfish of me to harm myself through alcohol, and not do something about it. My alcoholism is a selfish illness, and the consequences of my drinking are often selfish.
My recovery is selfish to the extent that I put my sobriety first, but after that , everyone benefits from me not drinking. However, I stay stopped for myself, not for others. Stopping drinking for others is not going to work.
We have read many times on this thread about 'I am going to stop drinking for the sake of my family' and this rarely lasts. Alcoholism is a b1tch

    Hi Miss P

I'm uhmming and ahhing about a target for June and have had a think about this. I am going away for a week. Next month have been invited on 2 boozy work do's which I don't know how to handle AF

Target for June 23/30 A maximum of 7 drinking days allowed however may not cash them all in.

Now I've told people I haven't had a drink for 2mths at work they are why? Because I want to.

The association of holidays/work do/alcohol is a strong one and I keep having to remind myself how good I feel AF and whether it is worth having a drink to stop being AF.

I think I will have another think about the target

Can I be TF please for June Miss P?

Then I won't put pressure on myself and take it day by day and then see about the other stuff later. I don't want another hangover ever again. I enjoy a glass of pop. Why do I feel the pressure on myself to drink on work do's? I am strong on my own, strong with certain people, feel weak when wanting to fit in when this doesn't usually bother me.

I'm sure no one else will care whether I have a drink or not once they have started - I need to do what I want and remember this, if I don't drink who else cares!

Sorry about that, just needed to let it out, thats all
