    Hi Graeme,

    Thanks for your PM.

    I've replied also by PM.

It's the loneliness of this f'in booze that gets me.

I found myself in a pub, last Thursday, in the middle of the afternoon, on my tod, and surrounded by couples and families.

    Felt very lonely.

I hope I can get rid of that feeling.

I felt alone when drinking, even if surrounded by people.
My alcoholism wanted to isolate me.

I have a list of about 40 people now I can ring any time day or night if I feel like this, and they will listen to me (and may talk). All these people have my number too and they can ring me whenever they need to. This makes life safer and easier

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

So, is there a difference between an alcoholic and a controlled drinker then? Because I can tell you all for an absolute fact, I would not, ever, drink on the street and share cider with a tramp.

Not that I don't appreciate that experience and applaude the fact that she has recovered from the hell she must have been in.

My rock bottom would be losing my family, but I would never let that happen.

I remember when I went for counselling once and I was talking about my MIL who died from alcohol related illness(es) aged 57 a few years ago. I said I wasn't like her, I have other committments which mean I can't be her i.e. I have to get up and go to work, drive the kids around etc. The counsellor said 'not yet you're not' and it's true, 5 years ago I only drank half the amount I have been recently (on a daily basis). I used to work 1.5 hour travel away and didn't get home till 8pm and couldn't drink till then, for the last few years I've been working locally and getting home at 4.15pm, that's when i start drinking and I'm used to that now. As GC says it's a progressive illness, but you are sucked in before you even know you've been caught.

I can remember going into the shop over the road (to buy beer) and queing behind this woman who was having trouble sorting her money out to pay the man because she was drunk. She absolutely reeked of alcohol. I felt distaste. Why? I was doing exactly the same thing and was no different, even though back then my drinking problem had a timetable. I think I felt distaste because I secretly knew that people must be thinking that about me :o

Sorry to hear about your Beef Bourginon jo. Thought for the future, when I do my similar dish I cook it in a low oven for 2 and a half hours so doesn't need watching/stirring. You cold prepare it on the hob and then transfer to casserole dish, I'm sure it would work. I did smile about your meal out tomorrow. Will you be finishing off with Black Forest gateau? very retro.

Thanks Maman, yes I normally do it in the oven but broke my casserole dish :( Maybe I could try it in the slow cooker?

I was very disappointed about the bourginon yesterday but today it's all forgotten because tonight yes it's true, I will be eating my prawn cocktail, sirloin steak with jacket and musrooms and no, not black forest gateau _pale_ but a knickerbockerglory ;) :rotfl:

Hope you all have a lovely day, I'm off to work
