I will :). You absolutely are doing the right thing. I hate the way they do that without you asking.

  • I'm thinking off taking a week off when DSs exams are over and maybe visiting London for a couple of days. Haven't told them yet but hopefully they will agree. Has anyone got any suggestions of good places to visit/stay/eat while we are there? Touristy stuff I mean but some of the prices seem extortionate . I lived in North London for 10 years but now we are about an hour away on the train. I'd like to stay somewhere central if possible. Any suggestions gratefully received.

All I know is that it something is not to my liking I have two options.
    1) Accept it - all I can change is the way I react to it
    2) Walk away

If something wasn't working for me and making me resentful, I would look to other treatments. I tried many things. You stick on what works for you.

After a while, sobriety has taught not me to give up power so easily to others. If I get resentful, I try and look for my part in it. Also, I try to take the other person's perspective.
I make a decision to be happy, and that means I regularly have to accept things I don't like.
In the past, I always used to have to be right about everything. Now, I'd rather be happy than right. If someone doesn't let me off the tube first before getting on, that makes me mad. Though I HAVE to let it go. If I carry around a resentment about that it will ruin my day. Not the person who pushed past me, they don't care or haven't even thought about it. Thus I must not give away power too cheaply.
    Acceptance is the key.

Thanks Graeme. I love your attitude!

However, what can I do, if there is no alternative support available where I live?

Also, if we accept everything, then aren't we giving away our power by doing so? :-/

I wish I was as laid back as you, that's for sure!

    Kind Regards,

    Sim.

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.
