Just a thought, but I was googling to see if I could find a full image of the alphabet and I stumbled across this website.

Am I right in thinking that Joan Elliot is the artist of our Fairytale ABC? If so, there is another part of the website where she mentions copyright.

Evening all

I will take what ever letter(s) Im given :rotfl:-I wil have to have a looksy as Im not sewing on aida -and Im almost certain my even weaves are cream/ivory etc -Never use AIDA or WHITE .... god Im a pain in the a**
Im sure whne I was looking at that link that someone posted the other day (for the quilts for charity) that they requested a square of 9"X9" for a 5"x5" design -I guess they need plenty for sewing up etc...

I guess we can't add beads -incase they go to a littly who might chew/pull em off -but I may have to add some sparkle -look I don't normally have a girly bone in my body -so if Im gonna do girly Im REALLY gonna do it :rotfl:

Would it be possible for someone to let me know who I need to PM my addy to for a copy of the charts? only I can't blinkin see it

I am happy to email her on our behalf if that's ok with everyone? It does have a copyright sign under it on her site but then it is in the magazine for anyone to do - but if we are going to sell it we would need her permission. Er are we going to auction it or are we giving to a suitable charity? If auctioning = need permission, if giving it away = no permission needed (as far as I understand it)

Won't email till I know the answer to the above question btw

"what a nice idea!
I would say you probably need at least half an inch all the way round - though maybe an inch to be on the safe side. When you sew it on your machine a top tip for getting an even seam at the right distance is to measure the distance from the machine needle to the right (some machines have this marked) and put a small wodge of post it notes on then butt your fabric up against that! " TBH don't understand the last bit of what she said but am sure she will show me at some point if I need lol

Thanks Louise. I'll have to buy some Aida (as I said, I haven't cross-stitched for years!), and most of the threads I have are loose, so I have no idea what shades they are.

YAY - Just got this lovely email back from the lady who designed the fairytale alphabet

Hi Kate-


Thanks for contacting me. I love the idea of making the Fairy Alphabet into a quilt. I think it's the perfect design for it. I may make this design into a leaflet for an afghan at some point but I do not have any objections to you using it for your group project.


The idea of having an auction (hoping it brings in oodles!) and giving the proceeds to a children's charity is perfect. Please do go ahead, you have my permission for this one time use. It will be lovely.


I'm hoping you can you send me a picture of the finished quilt so I can show it off on my blog and I can include a link to your chosen charity.

So now we can get on with some stitching - am really excited! Think we should use her colours (especially if she is going to put a pic on her blog) so if someone could email me the chart/thread details I can sort out getting them and then sending them out when everyone has signed up for their letters - I am quite good at begging/cajoling so am hoping we can get the majority of threads and maybe even some aida as freebies/very low cost.

sorry if I've started taking over a bit - please slap me down to size if needed, am just so used to working and living with useless men so I just get on with stuff

Who ever can email me the pdf of the chart please do (pm me for my email address or ask on here for it and i'll pm it too you), ive had 2 offers from the people i asked. Basically it should mean we can all access it with out somone having to email it to everyone.

I'll post the link up here once ive given them the pdf. (but because of the copyright, after we all defiantly have it (a few weeks maybe) i'll ask them to take it down so they dont get in trouble with Joan.

perhaps hobbycraft (or an indepedant store) would like to sponsor it.......... I.E. give us stuff for free for a square with their name on.............. - perhaps try sow&sow as we give them loads of publicity here................
