The great quilt idea......

Calling all:
Quilters
Sowers
Cross-stitchers
and anyone else who thinks they can contribute.
Over on the cross stitch cafe we have been having a think how people on this forum could put their talents to good use........ and this is the idea....... (tho needs a bit of padding out)
The stitchers then send their design to a named quilter who has made a 'chunky' patchwork square - who stitches the cross stitch onto said square.
A named person is then responsible (maybe with a group in their area) of stitching the whole thing together.
We then donate it to a charity (to be decided) or ask Martin to auction it with the proceeds going to a charity.
If you are interested please make it known on here and let others know who may be interested.
Hope to see some old and new faces here.............
ETA: Both Martin and the chart designer have given us their blessing to take on this challenge. Lets make them proud.
The designer (whose name escapes me ATM) would LOVE photos to use on her blog and I think that is only fair so if anyone can take pics as they go along (OK OK I know we will anyway) or take a pic of their finished square in an unusual place etc........ lets see if we can get any magazines to pick up the story

alphabet - one designThe plan so far:Donations have now kindly been recieved from Sew&So. Please papal Dorastar £1.50 to cover her postage fees or send a SAE for materials
Fairytale alphabet. (We have now removed the link, please pm me with your e-mail address and I will send it to you if you have not yet downloaded it.
second border.
1 row border (like the first one thats there)
6 rows after the first....so there are 5 rows inbetween the 2 borders.
the border will be the same colour as the letter and sown using 2 strands of floss.
name and county
using the middle row, for 1 square letters build around it.
e.g. Emzy81 will write the 'm' and 'z' in the middle row. the 'E', '8' and '1' will tower above it and the 'y' under it. this will leave her with 1 blank row, 3 of letters, 1 blank row.stitch the writing in the bottom right hand corner.
the writing will be in black back stitch...using this 2 Stitches Tall alphabet (improvise certin letters that don't look right)
I.e. for Frank Bloggersbottom living in Yorkshire (username: bloggy35) he could write:
Frank - Yorkshire
Bloggy35 - Yorkshire
Bloggersbottom - Yorkshire (a very tight fight)
F. Bloggersbottom - Yorkshire (an even tighter fight)
an example: well done Emzy!!
14ct White Aida - we really need to make sure this is the same colour white/ Aida same texture e.g. poundland aida is corser and slightly darker then branded Aida
We will be using the same colour thread as shown in the pics.
Square start date: GO GO GO GO GO
Square finishing deadline: 30th June 2010 (tho we will revisit this on 17th June and see how people are getting on/ if we need another month)

alphabet - any designCount me in Chicky!
Let me what the design is to be and what size approx.
sweetcarer:j cross stitch forever, housework whenever :j0 -
alphabet - one designYup, count me in for a cross-stitchy square
I like the animal theme as well...but cartoon or realistic??:)
I'm thinking people could partner up - one stitcher with one patcher. (stitcher can sew both names on to the square) before it is sent on to be quilted.
Was also thinking of a 'spare' square naming the forum, the reason (or charity) and also the name of the quilter.

I was thinking either - let the stitcher decide.......... we could put what we are stitching next to the names so people can see what is already being done before they decide.I'm thinking people could partner up - one stitcher with one patcher. (stitcher can sew both names on to the square) before it is sent on to be quilted.

alphabet - any designcount me in,will do cross stitch square:D,
be amazing to be apart of this:j:j:j0 -
alphabet - one designWell we need votes on:
Theme - animals seems to be popular, any other suggestions?
Fabric - Aida or evenweave?
Size - design area
Personally I would vote
Theme - animals (I like the cattitudes ones, so those would be cartoon-style)
Fabric - 14ct aida (I feel that everyone would find that easier, even beginners.
Size - 5x5 max. Too big and the quilt would be massive lol
I would like to perhaps suggest a (single row) cross stitched border round everyones designs so they are all framed, I just think it would be all the more eyecatching. Also, whatever the design size, it would mean the outer edge of the squares would all be equal.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. cartoon animals - margaret sherryCount me in too, I'll cross stitch a square. 14 count aida, 5" x 5" sounds good to me!:xmastree:What a splendid idea, this Christmas sounds fun. I fully endorse it, let's try it at once!:xmastree:0

alphabet - one designI think maybe letting Martin give it to a charity? or auction it and give the money to a charity would be good. Would be nice to have him involved as this is after all his website
Once we've finalised what we're going to do, Ill contact him (find a way) and let him know what we're doing and include a link to the thread and then he can ultimately decide if he wants to be involved and we can ask his opinion on how he would like to give away/auction the finished article....
does that sound ok with everyone?0
