Yep
Margaret Sherry does several different comical animals, I've seen dogs, pigs, hedgehogs etc. I've got a few designs that have been in cross stitch magazines and I've always meant to do one or twelve.
Count me in for a square (adds to to do list!)0 -

I like this idea (mainly as I don't [STRIKE]enjoy doing [/STRIKE]do cute/cartoon)
I think Im gonna struggle to find something to do... but once I know what the "theme" is I will see what I can do-tis for charity after all

cartoon animals - range of designerscount me in too! what a fabulous idea! (does this mean we will need 2 numbers - quilt & challenge??;))maria_and_the_imps wrote: »count me in i'll stitch a square, i think going for a broader theme would be better ie animals, transport ect then it would be a more exciting quilt ?
i'm quite allergic to cats so am not sure too... also my OH saw me looking at a totally over the top cute design and said i wouldnt be allowed to stitch that near him or at the pub! :rotfl: obviously it's the group choice though!!!
edit: just wondering if a narrow choice of 1 designer would mean a lower price if it were auctioned? you'd want to maximise appeal i suppose so maybe a broad theme would be better from that perspective?
has anyone whose sold anything at auction got any advice???Relax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Frugal Living Challenger. No buying cleaning products. I used MSE advice to reduce my car insurance from 550 to 325!! & paid it off in full!!!0 -
alphabet - one designyep a broader theme is fine with me, whatever people would enjoy the most! Enjoyment is very important!
Just don't want to spread the list of designers too far wide may be awkward to get copyright permission from.
But if when everyone chooses a design they make a note of the designer we can send a bulk email to them0 -
alphabet - one designOh and yep a special number for this too lol
Right I was thinking to help people so we can start thinking of designs maybe we could all choose a theme and then put them all together in a list (yay a list) and vote on a theme? What do you think? I was just thinking it may help so that after that we can all look at what designs we have and like
Also some people aren't keen on the cute/cartoon bit either, I wasn't too sure they would look great mixed with real life pics but I could be totally wrong so if people think it would be better to mix between the two just say or if everyone would just like to do real life ones just shout!

cartoon animals - margaret sherryYeah a list :j Sounds good! Thanks Emzy I think that's a good idea because I'll need some guidance. I have some magazines but not loads, so an actual list of options would be good. That way I'll know I'm keeping within the rules.
For what it's worth I'm quite happy to do animals, transport or alphabets. All suggestions so far have been good. I think as long as we keep it kid friendly it will be better if we do go down the route of childrens charity.:xmastree:What a splendid idea, this Christmas sounds fun. I fully endorse it, let's try it at once!:xmastree:0 -
a mix of cartoon and realistic animalsHya all, this is really firing everyone's imaginations!!
I agree that a broader theme would be better. For us the stitchers, as well as the finished quilt, which would be much more interesting to look at. If we all do the same style and sized border to work within, that would help to bring everything together.
There is still the copyright issue, but I am sure with all the clever people invlolved with MSE, we can work it out!!
Thinking of a theme, I agree that animals would be best, appealing to both adults and children alike. It also gives us stitchers the chance to stitch something we really like.
It will be up to the quilters (if we can get them interested of-course!) to sort out putting all the squares together in the most appealing arrangement...but that's what they are good at!
So I propose (and vote for) Animals as a theme (both cartoon and realistic).
Will pop back later today or tomorrow to see how things are shaping up!

alphabet - any designHi everyone
I am up for cross stitching a square and my mum does quilting so she has offered to sew some of the patches and put it together if no one else volunteers. I am disapointed no one apart from us cross stitchers has stepped on board yet.Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member No 2 :j
