I was thinking either - let the stitcher decide.......... we could put what we are stitching next to the names so people can see what is already being done before they decide.

Great idea to put pics by names so no one ends up doing the same design

    Well we need votes on:

Theme - animals seems to be popular, any other suggestions?

    Fabric - Aida or evenweave?

    Size - design area

    Personally I would vote

Theme - animals (I like the cattitudes ones, so those would be cartoon-style)

Fabric - 14ct aida (I feel that everyone would find that easier, even beginners.

Size - 5x5 max. Too big and the quilt would be massive lol

I would like to perhaps suggest a (single row) cross stitched border round everyones designs so they are all framed, I just think it would be all the more eyecatching. Also, whatever the design size, it would mean the outer edge of the squares would all be equal.

The theme animals is proving popular... i personally think we need to chose either cartoon or realistic as im not sure mixed would look great? But say if im wrong...

Louise ive found i also have the cattitudes calendar so if we do chose those as designs maybe we could both send pics out to people?

14ct aida seems the best count to me as a few have already said it will be easy for everyone

And also 5x5 sounds like a good fair size too

I agree with you, either or would be great, I'm not bothered which, but I'm not so sure they would look great mixed. :)

    other (please post a note)
Well I don't know... I leave you lot alone for a few hours and look what happens :rotfl:

Count me in... will it matter if its 14ct or 28ct as it will still be the same size square :p

Heck knows what I will do as I don't normally do aida, cute or small :rotfl:-Im sure I will think of something ...just let me know what is decided :D
Perhaps if the idea comes together we could do a different theme(or 2) later on ;)

    I'm definitely in too

Just a quick question though - would we be breaking copyright if we did the cattitude pics and then tried to auction the quilt?

Personally can't stand cats (please do not shoot me all cat lovers) but am prepared to stitch them for a good cause.

If it was going to to a postpal child we could do a smaller sized alphabet of 'things' and people could draw up their own design or use any old ones from mags that they have lying around - just an idea but am happy to go with the flow.

I would vote cartoon as well...mainly beause it's easier to find cartoon animal charts for the small size.

a mix of cartoon and realistic animals
This is a great idea folks...count me in too.

Would we all be limited to one square, or can we make more? Also, how "far in", or should I say, how many stitches long should the border'ssides to be??

Also, would all charts, unless specified copy-right free be a problem for this quilt?? Mind you, if we are not getting the money ourselves.....perhaps it's OK.

I have a couple of books with lots of animal charts, big and small..so will have a trawl.

Am I assuming the squares are 5x5 inches...rather than cm?? I have piccies that will probably fit both sizes.

I also vaguely remember having a couple of "cattitudes" charts...are they in black thread mainly, with a small bit of other colour? Must hunt them out, no idea where they may be!!

    Righ off to bed...shattered!

Will follow this thread with great interest!!

    Night, night.

Right i am not sure about the copy right issue but if we all decide on cattitudes or whatever others then ill contact someone and find out if this is all ok.... as Chickywiggle said we can get Martin to smile sweetly lol :D

    And yep 5 x 5 inches i was thinking?

Also ill give it a week (does everyone think thats ok?) and then count up how many people we have and then work out if we need people to do a couple and then see who wants to do more than one.

Also at the begiining of next week when more people have see the thread we can have a vote on what designs to go for...

I am thinking though if we go for the Magaret Sherry cattitudes designs at least its all one designer so we only have to sort out copyright issues with her. But I am open to any other suggestions too if people think thats silly :)
