I remember halfpennies, big 5p, 10ps and 50ps (which hasn't been mentioned!) and 20ps and £1 coins being introduced. I haven't had a £1 in a while either but yes, we still have them. When 20ps/£1 coins came out, my family used to save them up - did anyone else? If my parents got any, they were put into big sweetie jars and saved for holidays! MIL saves £2 coins for Holly now.

My earliest definite memory is of a little girl being murdered when I was 5 years old. It was on the news when I was staying at my Gran's and I was having nightmares and couldn't sleep, so she made me a piece and link sausage with tomato sauce even though it was the middle of the night (probably really about 10pm but I was only young!).

Other memories I have, I find it difficult to know if they are real or have just been triggered by photographs I have seen. There are thousands of photos of me as my dad was into photography.

Oh and hubby just phoned and said he fancies a fish supper for dinner. I was about to make dinner but the potatoes are looking a bit over sprouted for my liking, so chippy it is!

What the heck is that Fitz!!!!!

A "piece" is a sandwich in Scotland! It's funny though, I would never say a "piece and tuna" or a "piece and gammon salad" but it seemed to go right with sausage in that sentence. And I might have a "piece and jam".

Tia, Caz, Csh - help me out please!

I think I remember it because my parents were so very upset!

*ahem* Just to be clear you were 7 and I was 6 - that is a world of difference :D but yes I am quite old :(

OK, I lied! :o It was the week after my 9th birthday. My memory isn't too good these days. :p

    oh big events i remember...

    the pope coming to Ireland

When the Pope came to Liverpool our teacher at the time was a Nun and she took all of our Roseary beads over to be blessed.

I think we were 10, and thought it was hysterical when Sister Paul mentioned she was going to kiss the popes ring!

In general I have truly fuzzy childhood memory though, OH is frequently amazed that I can't remember xxxxxx thing about my childhood! :(
I remember my OH's life better than he does - he asks me about things from before I knew him.
3 - you are showing your age! I doubt than many on here remember the ha'penny :D
Ha'pennies went out in 1984/5 - I remember them being removed from the play money when I was in Reception.
Twenty pences came in in 1982 and pound coins in '83.
Five pences got smaller in 1990 and ten pences around 94 I think - it was later than they originally planned. Fifty pences shrank about 1997. I could check but my coin collection is still hiding in a box.
I can very clearly remember when Maggie Thatcher resigned- I would have been 7 and at Primary School! I think that is the first bit of history I can remember, if you know what I mean.
The first historical thing I remember is the Berlin Wall coming down when I was nine. I also remember Prince Andrew and Fergie getting married but that's not "proper" history.

    Evening everyone,

I have a vague memory of pound notes, halfpennies and 20ps being introduced.

I have no memory of Lennon be killed (I would have been 3 or 4)

All I can remember from my earliest days is putting conjunctivitis cream in my dolls eyes and looking at a hard boiled egg one day and thinking yuch what's that black ring and I've not been able to eat them since!

No idea what we're going to call Katies parts as she gets bigger, I think I just called it my bum. DH has a tail according to Katie.

    Hugs to everyone.

WM - yes :( (lost the quote) - did you see my post yesterday saying i got the suspicious envelope? :D Thread was busy and it was at the bottom of a page.

My earliest memory is painting on an easel with potatoes at nursery.

And my first news memory was Freddie Mercury dying i think?! I'd have been about 6 then

A link piece is correct, with tomato sauce (not ketchup) or red sauce.

1 black bag of rubbish out of my room, anyone need some 4 years out of date condoms? I cleared out 'that' drawer, good job I pulled the drawers out (built in units) to check, there were some rather... interesting catalogues that had fallen down under! :rotfl:Would have been fun if Christian BIL were to help DH dismantle that in a few weeks time  and also :rotfl:but mostly :rotfl:

I'm feeling better with every black bag! But I'm down to 1 left
