    Swarfega.
    Who is near Newcastle??
How near do you count as near? There's me, Becles, Beenie, newbie_maz, angela and kindof in the north east. I think Agutka may be somewhere around here too.
I decorated my own tables too - I bought round mirror tiles from Ikea and put 3 thick pillar candles of different heights in the middle of them. I then sprinkled leaf skeletons in silver and pale blue around the bottom. They looked beautiful and I think it cost me about £4 per table.
I'm very impressed by all this table decorating. We wouldn't have bothered but someone from church volunteered to do flowers to decorate the chapel (which is where the reception was too). I think she found it a bit difficult that I had no views whatsoever on the matter.

  • I think weddings only need to be as complicated as you want them to be. Most of the "details" no-one is going to notice but you (well... they will notice them, but unless you spend all day moaning about it, no-one will know that the napkins aren't really the colour you wanted ;) )

I SO agree with this!!! I said the whole way through planning my wedding (all FOUR months ) that I didn't give a shoite what everyone else did or what I should be doing - I just wanted whatever made hubby and I happy. It took my MIL a while to catch on to this and she kept saying 'but you have got to have xxx' and I would say 'oh sorry - is the marriage not real if I don't?' :D The worst was she couldn't get her head about me not wanting an adult bridesmaid and her asking hubby to choose one of my four close friends for me as I obviously found it too difficult to be honest and choose the one I liked best :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

We didn't have a cake, a photographer or a sit down meal, I was walked down the 'aisle' by my mum AND dad, my mum gave a speech instead of my dad, hubby had 2 best men (1 being DSS) and we got married in a cave :D

I thought of swarfega to but didn't think that was something you would generally keep in the house so I'm glad you said it to.
Dh and I are planning a visit down that way not sure when tho but coming to visit my friend billingham and wandered who was close by? Thanx for that x

MFD, no cake?! If ever there was an excuse (if needed!) to have a cake, it's a wedding :p (or a day with a y in it if you're me.. :o)

We had cakes :D the buffet had a dessert section of beautiful miniature cakes. It is just the whole fuss and faff of a wedding cake (and having to cut said cake) that offends my sensibilities!!

Basically, anything that 'has' to be done at a wedding I refused to do :rotfl::rotfl:other than the vows and kissing bit ;)

We weren't supposed to have a first dance either but (and I couldn't believe this) the guests were REFUSING TO DANCE until we had danced  Hubby chose a song off the top of his head and came to get me mumbling something about not causing a fuss and trying to enjoy it!! Choppy, any more news on you coming up this way again later in the year? :)

Nope, still haven't made a decision <rolling eye smiley>. If we do, it more than likely won't be until October as we're going away in July for a few days and again at the beginning of September (on the cruise that my sis was supposed to be getting married on but now isn't and it's too expensive to cancel and lose the deposit and the few hundred pounds of clubcard vouchers we put towards it).

Urgh, just mentioned it to DH and he's reminded me that the ILs are away until 14th October so we need to be at home ("pets" that need to be looked after). I don't know what date the caravan park closes for the winter, so will have to ask my Auntie and find out whether we can squeeze a weekend in after that.

I'll let you know as soon as we get something sorted (IF we get something sorted :D)

We were pretty much the same, no photographer, no 1st dance, no structure to the day except for the actual marriage bit. After that it was so relaxed and chilled out.
