3, the woman that gave birth to me now has her mortgage paid by the state and has her house done up by them as well due to a bad back that no doctors have ever been able to find the cause of, because it either doesnt exist or isnt as bad as she makes it out to be, so its a sore point on me :p

Housing benefit max £400 a month! Those huge families that get £1000's a month in London will be gutted!

So when he was on about tax credits or whatever, and said that it will change from retail prices to consumer prices, what does that even mean??
  • Afternoon all!

Liking the budget so far, not as bad as trailled (which it what i thought they were doing with the 'it's all bad' news spinning in advance).
VAT is steep but the way I look at it when it was reduced I didn't notice that much difference in what I got back so hopefully won't when it goes up. I still get HiPG for my bump but wouldn't have been too gutted if it went straight away, it does seem a bizarre grant.
And the personal tax allowance is up so if I do some freelance work I can earn a bit more before tax.

Have been lost in France for 2 weeks, came home to no kitchen. Which is fun cooking with a microwave and kettle only.

    Hope everyone is well.

Som - sorry to hear you're having a tough time - do you fancy meeting up again soon? We could go to Wisley if you fancy a day out, I've got membership so it would be free.

I think the consumer one is a better reflection of what things actually cost but I'm not 100% sure
The very best is sometimes what nature gives us for free.

It is basically just linking it to a different inflation rate - linked to spending now - it will still increase.

    Me too!

We have the odd one down the road who when she realised she'd need a man to get another baby, she decided to try and get DLA for her daughter. There's chuff all wrong with her, well other than she's a bit nuts, but only like her mother! :rotfl:

She had the cheek to say to me 'well if your J gets it, our L should too!'

Then there's us, who've been waiting since the start of March for the decision on J's DLA being extended. All they'd need to do is come and meet him for 5 minutes then they'll decide.

ETA: Rant not quite over yet!
When i'm at work, we have access to the benefits comps and can see what people were claiming for. The amount of people on long term DLA for alcoholism and drug dependancy was shocking! Doh! Stop giving them money then they can't buy their bl00dy special brew! :rotfl:

LOL - they should go back to the old days of trailing people they suspected were pulling a dodge :p

Last week I had to hide upstairs at work while she came in my shop, apparantly she is now telling people she has a frozen shoulder and needs a hip replacement now, how she could possibly need a hip replacement I'm not sure as its not like it ever gets used, all she does is sit on her backside either at home or in a mobility scooter, and its all shes done for the last 20 years...

Not too bad! Was expecting more tax on fuel so happy that there isn't any. Pay freeze for 2 years but can still move up the pay points each year. Don't get enough CTC to be bothered about it. The extra £1K tax allowance is good.
The 20% VAT sucks though!!!!:mad:

    A happy (ish) Glam:)

Fuel will go up with the VAT though. When it was reduced to 15% we did notice a bit at the checkouts but I didnt notice anything actually getting more expensive when it went back up to 17.5%, maybe the companies will carry the expense and gradually phase it in again as they did earlier in the year?

They just interview "single mum worse off by £20 a year" who was saying how gutted she was and what a struggle it will be... !!!!!!? £20 a year? How would you even notice that?
