Yeah he must have read it wrong like I did Glam. I can rent a 3 bed house here for £650, wouldnt be the nicest house in the world but still! My work friends who have council houses pay around £400-500 for their 3 beds. I think the only place you'd struggle to get a 3-4 bed for £400 a week would surely be London? In which case - move somewhere cheaper :p
Do people actually expect not to have to contribute towards their rent at all?!

I live in a 3 bed flat with a garden in inner London and pay less than £400 a week :) it was interesting that they said the change would save them approaching £2bn a year - that's a lot of people currently claiming £2k+ a month in housing benefit

The VAT thing will hurt us invisibly over time, Sami - I know it's not obvious but assume the govt is right and it's going to bring them £13bn a year.. that money is going to come from the population's pockets one way or another!

Overall not brutal for most people but a bit depressing :p

Oh, and to Beenie/MFD on tracking benefits to rise in line with the CPI rather than the RPI - the point being that the CPI generally goes up more slowly, therefore benefits are expected to go up more slowly now than they have in the past, thus saving the govt money (forecasting that they will pay benefit recipients less than they would have under previous rules).

I think i was scratching at them absentmindedly and they have split if that makes sense? I suppose because the skin is thin? I'll nip to chemist and ask for something I suppose.

Things are pretty grim in all honesty. Taking my netbook to my mamas, so will update you all later tonight. Must go pick up bop from nursery now.

    Thanks :)

They're reducing backdating of tax credit new claims and changes of circumstances to one month.

Also from 2012 if you have a drop in income they don't change your tax credits unless it drops by more than £2500.

Page 40 and 41 of the complete budget seems to give the most detail.
