Please, please, please support Meningitis Trust.
I lost my son Michael to this awful disease. With money donated they can continue with research and hopefully find a cure. It kills many children (also adults) and people need to be aware of the signs. The Trust also supports people who have been affected by the disease themselves and also friends or relatives. They need your help!0 -
I would also like to nominate Mind.
Website: http://www.mind.org.uk/
One in four people suffer mental distress, yet it is still highly stigmatised in society. As mentioned before in this thread, debt can often be both a trigger of and result of mental illness, making this a relevant charity for MSE to support. While many other charities are often backed by celebrities, MIND and similar mental health charities plough on with their great work without high-profile backing. They are a fantastic source of information and are, literally, lifesaving.0 -

woodside animal shelter, plymouth, devon
this is a wonderful animal shelter, started by a lady and her husband to care for unwanted animals. she has tirelessly worked and dedicates her life to this charity. It has grown over the years and she has a wonderful new centre which is (hopefully) expanding. She also takes advice and help to the homeless with their animals and many other wonderful things. She will NOT put an animal down unless it is terminally ill. She has recently been awarded an OBE for her work. She needs more money to help more animals.0 -
My nomination is Shelterbox who are a registered charity based in Helston, Cornwall that send life-saving boxes containing tents to all areas of the world for those who have lost their homes, whether it be due to natural disasters or war. The latest consignment has been sent to Lebanon. Sadly, the demand is ever increasing. Please take a look at :

1) Treloar trust - a great institution that provides specialist education for disbaled kids (5- 25).. they are an award winning organisation, and at the forefront of providing services and opportunities for kids with disabilities. Although the education authorities fund the places at the school and college, charity is relied upon to give all the extras, and innovation that make lives so much more tolerable.
2) The Back-Up trust..
adventure for people with spinal injuries. This trust gives hope and inpiration to people with spinal injuries. there is a life after injury ( did you see 'Footprints in the snow?' ) a great and really worthwhile charity.0 -

I would like to nominate "Children's Liver Disease Foundation"
https://www.childliverdisease.org
Every day in the UK at least two children will be diagnosed with a liver disease
Thousands more are living with it - day in, day out.
There are over 100 different liver diseases which affect children and young people and most are life threatening. Liver disease does not just affect babies. Around half of the diseases which are diagnosed will be in infancy but 20% will occur in childhood and about one third in adolescence. There is only one national charity fighting all liver diseases of childhood - the Children's Liver Disease Foundation. It fights by funding pioneering research, providing education and giving professional, caring support to the families and patients.
CLDF's education programme is vital in helping promote early diagnosis and referral by healthcare professionals. Please help them to help us.0 -
I nominate The Princess Royal Trust for Carers. - https://www.carers.org
Supports carers - the forgotton heroes of our society
1 in 10 of the population are carers for their loved ones and save the Government £57Billion per year. In return they get an allowance of only £47. A network of carer centres accross the uk offer support, practical advice and some respite. There are lots of young carers trying to juggle school with practical caring. They need our help so much.
The relevance to the site is obvious as many carers struggle on their tiny allowance.0 -
I would like to nominate Child victims of crime.
The only national police charity, administered by the sports rugby section.
The name of the charity says it all.
