When you submit your claim it will obviously be in Euros. We don't want them to get another penny out of us so use RyanAirs own exchange rate of 1:1

I went to book an imaginary flight from Stanstead to Malaga on 9th June. The online check in fee was £5. I then reversed the process Malaga to Stanstead online check in fee 5 euros

I sent in my claim on Monday with copies of my receipts.

How long should I wait until I follow it up?
Has anyone had a positive reply yet?

sent our claim in - another thread said expect to wait 4 weeks.

This is an unprecendented event and they prob. have 1 or 2 people working there normally. Ryanair customer service is a contradiction in terms at the best of times; think I'll start our insurance claim soon...
  • Well I've got my flight refund processed, with an email telling me my credit card (ICE Mastercard no fees !!!) will be credited.

    The email also stated
As you requested a refund please be advised that in accordance with EU Regulation 261 you do not have any further claim against the airline.

Is this true. We rebooked the flight twice, but each time it was cancelled, so I claimed for 5 nights accommodation. When the third flight was cancelled we took a train from Berlin to Amsterdam, overnight ferry to Newcastle and then the train to Edinburgh.

Have I scuppered my chances of claiming accommodation expenses by claiming a refund ?

I have just read on the BBC News website that the Italian government has fined Ryanair £2.5M for failing to help passengers during the volcanic ash problems. :rotfl:

Quite agree, I just posted on the other thread.
I hope they get fined by every eu state and go bankrupt. That would teach them.
Well obviously O'leary would still be a multi millionaire, flights would either get dearer or just not be there, and the compensation wouldn't be paid out, but it would teach him a lesson that you can't mess with the eu.
And the fines will pay for a few MEP's to fly first class, so the system obviously works.

Let's email all our MEPs and demand all carriers that didn't perform are fined. If every eu country fines each carrier, it could raise millions even billions for the eu funds, from budget airlines.
This may well be the start of filling eu coffers.
And we could even close all the cheap carriers that don't provide a first class service, and just leave the premium ones unopposed.

Apparently the fine is because of 178 cases of passengers not getting mandatory assistance, and seems to be about Ciampino airport near Rome. £2.5M for 178 cases, that is £14,000 per person. Perhaps it would have been cheaper for Ryanair to comply with the law and give people something to eat?!

It is a pity our government don't fine Ryanair in a similar way, as we could use £2.5M to pay off a tiny bit of our country's deficit! What's the betting it goes the other way though and tax payers' money is given to airlines?

Soooooo, you hope that tens of thousands of airline and related employees lose their livelihoods? What a vile person you are!

And I think it's more likely the premium carriers would go down first but lets hope it doesn't come to that and that assistance is provided to airlines who are not to blame for a volcano eruption.
