Yep, an Ikea blind is fine. Any blackout lining will do. I bought some wood, made a frame, and then stretched 2.8m x 1.6m around the frame for a permanent screen. Blackout lining is £5 per 1m length (1.6m width)

there are some screenshots here of what this projector plays like on an IKEA blind . Looks pretty impressive even though its just a still! I can find the exact blind they used so which one do people suggest ?!

Out of the box fairly impressed with it so far - needs a bit of tweaking to perfect :-)

Just picked up a White blackout roller blind from B&Q in their half price sale (£19.94) Its much better than my lime green walls. Bought 2 one for my window and one for my wall. 1.8m wide, 1.6m high and my project just about fills the 180cm width, with a little room to paint the edges black. (I'll leave that for some other day).

As I said, it needs to be a blackout blind, but in white.

The Ikea 1 is called Tupplar... and you can get a 2metre wide 1. But, you can always go anywhere that does black out blinds, like B&Q.
    Be nice

    Re - Bulb life.
The most PF bulbs do not have filaments as they are arc lights. This means they tend to wear-out (and gradually get dimmer) rather than 'pop'. So you'd have to be really unlucky to get one that didn't last.

(Cue bunch of people telling me that they/ friends were unlucky!)

.....if anyone has the time or inclination, can you tell me what additional eqpt you need to use one of these projectors (I'm assuming it hooks up to a tv/DVD....and do they have to be of a very good quality)?

I am just considering upgrading my tv, simply to get a bigger screen size (I have a bog standard 24" at the mo) and better quality. We watch tv (NTL) and the occasional video/DVD

...is it worth it (as we're not a sky plus....DVD and 24hr tv watching family)?

    Thanks, in advance

    Rubbish in ... rubbish out.

Most people aren't going to notice the difference between low- and high-cost sources.

    You have video/dvd/NTL.

Minimum you need one set of cables going from the video/dvd/NTL to the projector. This would either be a composite video, svideo or RGB. Ideally, you want a source selector so you only have one cable running to the projector. Otherwise just plug in the one you want to view.

You'll need a separate amplifier. So audio cables going from the video/dvd/NTL.

... and a spare wall to project onto.

Add about £50 quid for your cables. You can buy 2nd hand ones on http://www.avforums.com.

Bulb life is a maximum of 3000hrs. How long would that last you?

In order to watch in the daytime you'll need a darkened room i.e. you won't be able to watch it in daylight.
